🐯 THE MALAYAN TIGER — PRIDE WORTH SAVING
📖 WHAT IS THE MALAYAN TIGER?
The Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni) is a UNIQUE SUBSPECIES FOUND ONLY IN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA — and nowhere else on Earth!
📜 ORIGIN & HISTORY
For decades, scientists believed our tigers were the same as the Indochinese tiger. However, in 2004, detailed genetic research proved something extraordinary: our tigers are genetically distinct — a subspecies all their own! Thus, the Malayan Tiger was officially recognized and named in honour of tiger conservationist Peter Jackson.
Smaller and more graceful than other tiger subspecies, yet powerful and regal — they have reigned over Malaysia's ancient rainforests for thousands of years, silently guarding the jungles of Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, and Johor. They are not merely animals — they are Malaysia's national pride, our royal emblem, and the true King of our Forests.
⚠️ CRITICALLY ENDANGERED — FEWER THAN 150 REMAINING!
IUCN Status: CRITICALLY ENDANGERED 🔴
In the 1950s–1960s: Over 3,000 tigers roamed freely across our land
Today: LESS THAN 150 INDIVIDUALS remain in the wild
At this pace — the Malayan Tiger could be GONE IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS if we do not act NOW.
Threatened by: habitat loss • illegal poaching • diminishing prey • human-wildlife conflict
