I decided to skip the funicular and walk up to the white gates of Porta San Giacomo using the old stone stairs (Salita della Scaletta). The views are totally worth the steps! 🍕 Step 2: Pizza time. Walking through Piazza Cittadella, we hit Via Bartolomeo Colleoni is the main street of the Upper Town. You just have to grab a slice at the famous pizza place here! 🏛 Step 3: The heart of the city. Next stop is Piazza Vecchia. Everything is right here: the Campanone tower, the gorgeous Cappella Colleoni, the dark Basilica, and a secret sundial right on the ground. Wonderful experience using the bus service from Desenzano to Bergamo airport. The bus was roomy, comfortable, and punctual! Purchased tickets online via phone a day prior to the trip. There was ample space in the hold for luggage and room for carry-on backpacks. Arrived earlier than expected at Bergamo airport! It was a seamless and enjoyable journey. We regret not knowing about this service when coming from Milan Malpensa to Desenzano—traveling by train with all our luggage was far from ideal!

Bergamo, a seriously underrated medieval city… It's fascinating to think that people in the Middle Ages used to fetch water from the square. The frescoes inside the church are very beautiful. The Upper Town has many charming shops selling beautiful clothes. I also tried stracciatella, a cream and chocolate chip ice cream. This is the original birthplace of stracciatella, the only one of its kind in the world, making it a must-try culinary landmark in Bergamo. So, I had it once before taking the funicular up the hill and once again after coming down. Passing by a small shop, I found a Leone candy that seems to be a collaboration with Vespa. This city of Bergamo surprisingly leaves a very satisfying impression.

Amazing trip on the red train. Departure at 6 a.m. by bus from Bergamo on a Sunday. In an hour, we reached Milan, and after another 90 minutes, there was a 40-minute stop at a bar with access to restrooms. Soon, we arrived in Tirano, where we had an hour of free time. The train to St. Moritz departed at 11:40 a.m., with our group having a reserved carriage. After 2.5 hours of breathtaking views, we reached the train's destination and had a 3-hour stop. St. Moritz on a Sunday afternoon in May was deserted, and prices were steep for us Poles—9 CHF for water! Thankfully, the weather was on our side. At 5 p.m., we returned to Bergamo by a comfortable bus, reaching at 8:30 p.m., with an excellent driver. We were lucky to meet two fantastic individuals, Ivana and Christian, who organized and guided the trip with exceptional professionalism, care, and a warm smile. Their passion and dedication truly stood out, and the agency is fortunate to have them onboard. I highly recommend this trip; it would be hard to organize it yourself from Bergamo in just one day. If you want to soak up some authentic medieval vibes, the Old Town (città alta) is an absolute must-visit spot! 🚶♂️It takes about 45-50 minutes to walk from the train station to the Old Town. If you want to save some energy, definitely hop on a bus—it'll get you there in about half an hour. So easy~ As soon as you step foot into the Old Town, you'll be amazed by the incredible historical monuments and stunning churches around every corner! · The legendary old city gate: Porta San Giacomo (a must-see!) · The historic Mura Veneziane, which is an actual UNESCO World Heritage Site! Standing by the walls to take in the panoramic views of Bergamo's New Town is just a whole mood😍 🌟Top 2 Church Recommendations: 1. Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore 👉 The photos online are already jaw-dropping. Although I didn't go inside this time (it requires a ticket), I heard the interior is incredibly gorgeous.
