Leaving aside the comfort zone between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, I've experienced the vibrant street life of Weishan, the pastoral scenery of Shaxi, and the ancient temples and Zen sounds of Jizu Mountain… This time, taking advantage of the still chilly early spring rain, I packed some good wine and tea and headed straight to Eryuan, famous for its hot springs. Nestled in the mountains is a secluded hot spring hotel called "Pushan." Turning from the quiet ancient Tea Horse Road into a mountain path, Pushan is hidden in the forest at the top of the hillside (P2-8). Two old houses, almost abandoned, were fortunately chosen by a couple who love Dali. They restored them to their original state, collecting the 90℃ forest hot spring water and creating five uniquely styled private hot spring courtyards. Finally, they invited the original owners of the houses back to serve as housekeepers—a dreamlike cycle between the two families, giving the ancestral home a sense of home once again. Huashou Gate is the place where Mahakasyapa, the foremost disciple of the Buddha, "entered meditation guarding the robe, awaiting the Buddha's rebirth." According to mountain records, its name originates from the Buddhist story of the Buddha holding up a flower and Kasyapa smiling subtly, meaning: the gate of the place where the first practitioner who understood the Buddha’s meaning of holding up the flower entered meditation. Buddhist scriptures record that at the Lingshan Assembly, the Buddha held up a flower to the assembly, and only Kasyapa broke into a smile. The Buddha then entrusted Mahakasyapa with the "Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, the Wonderful Mind of Nirvana, the True Form without Form, the Subtle Dharma Gate, not relying on words, a special transmission outside the scriptures," and also gave Mahakasyapa a golden-threaded robe, "to be passed on to the future Maitreya Buddha." After the Buddha’s nirvana, Mahakasyapa passed the Dharma treasury to Ananda, then took the robe and went to Jizu Mountain to enter meditation, awaiting Maitreya’s descent. Thus, Jizu Mountain became the practice site of Mahakasyapa. Huashou Gate, as a sacred Buddhist site and the most holy place on Jizu Mountain, is regarded as "the soul of Jizu Mountain." Huashou Gate (Figures 1-6) is a natural sheer cliff on the southwest of Tianzhu Peak, the summit of Jizu Mountain. It is straight and sharp like a knife, overlooking a deep abyss thousands of feet below, resembling a large stone gate embedded in the cliff. Huashou Gate is 40 meters high and 20 meters wide. The upper round stone cliff protrudes nearly 3 meters. In the middle, a vertical crack divides the stone wall into two panels. The middle seam of the "gate" hangs "stone locks" of roughly equal length. The eaves and lintel are clearly distinguishable, resembling a tightly closed stone door. Looking up at the steep cliff, it seems to touch the sky, difficult for monkeys to climb, and appears ready to collapse; Looking down at the deep valley and ravine, misty and bottomless, as if reaching the ninth heaven. On the right outer stone wall of Huashou Gate, there is a naturally formed stone statue (Figure 8) that looks very much like the head of the Venerable Master Xuyun. Above and to the right of the "Venerable Master Xuyun’s head" on the stone wall, there is a vividly shaped "dragon head" (Figures 9-10 center). Further to the right, on a more distant stone wall, stands a tall and majestic "Great Roc Golden-winged Bird" (Figures 11-13), with its head, body, feet, feathers, and outstretched wings all lifelike. The Great Roc and the dragon are always vigilantly guarding the sacred Huashou Gate. Tongwa Hall (Figures 14-16) is a necessary passage to Huashou Gate. In Figure 16, looking up from inside Tongwa Hall towards the Golden Summit Temple, you can see the Lengyan Pagoda. Kasaya Stone (Figures 18-19) is located on a stone peak north of Tongwa Hall. The green stone surface is divided by white veins into sections, resembling a monk’s kasaya robe, hence called "Kasaya Stone." In the Ming Dynasty, Li Yuanyang inscribed the four characters "Kasyapa Relic" on the stone (Figure 19). There is a famous story of "stone made into kasaya with jade cracks."
