Some castles belong to history. Chambord seems to belong to a fairy tale. Deep in the Loire Valley, Château de Chambord rises above the surrounding forest with a spectacular collection of towers, turrets, chimneys and ornate rooftops. The first sight of it is almost surreal. Commissioned by King Francis I in the 16th century, Chambord is one of the great masterpieces of the French Renaissance. Its enormous façade is covered with so many architectural details that the château seems to change character every time you move. And then there is the famous double-helix staircase — two spiral staircases winding around one another without actually meeting, creating one of the most fascinating features inside the château. But honestly, Chambord is just as much fun to photograph from the outside. 📸 Photography tips For the classic view, stand farther back and use the surrounding grounds to frame the entire château. A wide-angle lens works beautifully for capturing the full silhouette, especially with the sky above the rooftops. Don't rush straight to the main façade. Walk around the grounds and look for different perspectives. The towers and chimneys create layers that look particularly dramatic when photographed with a longer focal length. Inside, look upward at the staircase and vaulted ceilings. Symmetrical compositions work especially well here. For exterior shots, early morning or late afternoon light can give the stone a warmer, more dimensional appearance. With free entry to the gardens, you can explore this lovely space as often as you like. Though not all women represented in the series were queens, they were influential figures in their time. Valentine, a young noblewoman, married Louis I, Duke of Orleans, the younger brother of King Charles VI. Her life was fraught with hardship—of her ten pregnancies, only four children survived. Caught in the web of political conflicts and tensions with her sister-in-law Queen Isabeau, she was exiled from court and Paris. Her suffering deepened when her husband was assassinated by political adversaries. Stricken with grief, she retreated to Blois Castle, dressed in mourning, and died a year later, possibly of typhoid fever, at only 37 years old. The statue portrays Valentine as a graceful young woman wearing a jewelled crown, a modest dress, and a tasselled waist cord. Blois is perfect for simply walking around without rushing — especially if it’s your first time in the Loire Valley. 🍽️ A French buffet in a tiny town After Blois, we drove toward Neuvy, where we had dinner at Café de Commerce. This was one of those unexpected travel moments I loved: having a French buffet in a small town, far away from the busy tourist areas. The setting felt very local, and it was such a different experience from eating in Paris. 🌿 Overnight in Neuvy We stayed the night in the countryside around Neuvy. If you’re travelling by car, I really recommend staying outside the bigger Loire Valley towns at least once. It’s peaceful, quiet and gives you a completely different side of France. 📍 DAY 2 — Château de Chambord 🏰 Visit Château de Chambord The next morning, we drove to Château de Chambord — easily the highlight of our trip. The château looks incredible even before you enter. Give yourself enough time to explore the interiors, famous staircases, terraces and the huge estate surrounding the castle. 🌳 Walk around the Chambord estate Don’t leave immediately after visiting the château. Take some time to walk outside and admire Chambord from different viewpoints. 🚗 Return to Paris After Chambord, we drove back toward Paris, making this a really easy two-day road trip. Our route: Paris ↓ Blois — walking tour ↓ Neuvy — French buffet + overnight stay ↓ Château de Chambord ↓ Paris ✨ Perfect for: couples, weekend trips from Paris, first-time Loire Valley visitors and anyone who wants castles, charming French towns and countryside life without packing too much into one trip. Tip: A car makes this route much easier, especially if you want to discover small towns and stay somewhere outside the main tourist centres.

DONT MISS THIS! Nice place to visit around Loire valley, before going I was looking at previous people's photos and videos just to see how long do we have to a lot for this stop over. I thought it was only of an hour or less but, when we arrived there. I was amazed people skip some places and it was really nice. If you like discovering small French villages with a lot of history this place is a must visit. I recommend to a lot atleast 3hrs to a day if you really want to feel the vibe and soul of the place

The pure white exterior shines brilliantly surrounded by forest, and even the salamander carvings (the king’s emblem) on the walls exude nobility. The valley of a thousand castles. The Loire Valley. The name alone sounds like a song. It brings to mind movies about brave knights and beautiful ladies. The makers of history—the Philips, Henrys, Louises, and Charleses—established their estates here. Many people spend their entire vacations cruising between endless rapeseed fields in their white motorhomes. Around the castles, there are huge parking lots for these motorhomes and for bicycles, which are found here in mind-boggling numbers. I have neither of those, nor do I have the time. So, out of 300 castles, I chose just two. One of them is Chambord, of incredible size and with a hunting forest enclosed by a 40-kilometer (!) fence. It’s insanely beautiful on the outside and just as impractical on the inside. Almost no one ever actually lived there, as its three hundred rooms were impossible to heat. The true treasure of the castle is a staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci himself. It's built in such a clever way that people walking up never cross paths with those walking down. Absolutely unparalleled. The second castle is Chenonceau. For five hundred years, it was owned exclusively by ladies, including Catherine de' Medici. Because of this, it features gorgeous landscaped gardens, rooms adorned with flowers, and it even had its own apothecary garden. While there, I attended a tasting of wines from the local vineyards—blanc, rouge, and rosé. Whether it was the women's touch or the wine, this second castle simply charmed me. And between the castles, I took a stroll through the lovely little town of Blois—sleepy and unhurried, it's the ultimate dream for French retirees.

Oldest wooden building in Angers, near another old church. We stopped here on our way to Beaufort-en-Vallée and had one of the best crepes ever. The castle is in Nantes. We are driving around France for 3 weeks and booking places on the fly. We've had some really good moments and seen some of the most amazing sites Starting gybe French Leg in Lille and staying at a really good Aparthotel, we've worked our way ugh the northern beaches along the coast, such s Dunkirk, Utah, Sword Beach and Gold Beach. Those beaches are massive! The Cote de Granit Rose (Pink Granite Coast) and the Menhirs at Casson were also a site to see, as well as Inland to Quimper Further along, we also visited the old pirate city of Saint-Malo, Dinan, as well as Saint-Nazaire and travelled inland to cities such as Clisson - great for wineries and lively wines. 3 night's in Beaufort-en-Vallée have us a base to traverse the countryside in all directions, including spending a day in Chinon for the start of stage 9 of the Tour de France! Perfect timing without realising... ☺️ Visiting thyself big castles now and then we're off to Versailles to see the palace and Gardens before hitting Paris
