Boston's Must-Try Spot! Delicious Lobster Rolls and a Must-Order Oyster Platter at Neptune Oyster
Neptune Oyster is undoubtedly one of the top local culinary destinations that always makes it onto Boston travel guides! This iconic eatery doesn’t take reservations and opens at 11 AM. Determined to try it, we arrived about half an hour before opening and were lucky to find only three groups ahead of us in line. We thought, "Great! We’ll definitely be in the first batch of diners!" If you’re eager to try it, we highly recommend arriving early.
When the doors opened promptly at 11, the staff warmly greeted and seated the waiting guests. The interior is quite cozy, making us even more grateful for our early arrival! Their signature lobster rolls come in two options: hot or cold, each with a different sauce. We opted for the hot lobster roll, served on a buttery, toasted bun. The lobster meat was incredibly fresh, plump, and tender, with a generous portion equivalent to a whole lobster! Each bite was unforgettable, with the soft bun perfectly complementing the succulent lobster meat. The accompanying fries were served in a surprisingly large portion, freshly fried and aromatic, with some still retaining their skins for added texture. While the price is on the higher side, the overall experience was absolutely satisfying! We tried several other lobster rolls around Boston afterward, but Neptune Oyster’s version remained unmatched—truly deserving of its reputation as a beloved local gem.
The oysters at Neptune Oyster are another must-try. The staff provides a dedicated oyster menu listing various types, origins, prices, and brief descriptions. Even if you’re not familiar with different oyster varieties, the menu makes it easy to choose, or you can simply ask the staff for recommendations. Once you’ve made your selection, write down the quantity and hand it to the server. Although we didn’t order many oysters that day, they were beautifully presented on a large platter with dipping sauces, lemon, and other condiments. The oysters looked pristine and fresh, and the server even suggested the best order and method for tasting them. Each oyster we tried was delicious, with a perfect size and texture. We couldn’t help but admire the extravagant platters ordered by other tables—they looked absolutely stunning!
We also recommend trying their clam chowder. The soup was rich and flavorful, with bits of clams adding to its hearty texture. Visiting in April, Boston’s mornings were still a bit chilly, so enjoying a warm bowl of chowder in the cozy restaurant was incredibly comforting. Overall, our dining experience at Neptune Oyster was delightful. Arriving early to secure a spot in the first seating worked out perfectly! After a satisfying meal, you can continue exploring Boston’s city center nearby.
