Girls, I just got back from the Dolomites in Italy and I can't wait to share! This place is truly stunning, and bringing a 5-year-old is totally doable. No need to carry them at all, the kid happily walked the whole way! We rented a car from Milan and drove all the way to Venice to return it. Our first stop was in the town of Ortisei, which has plenty of dining and lodging options. The houses are brightly colored, and every windowsill is full of flowers. The kid said, "Mom, we’ve moved into a fairy tale book!" ✅ Funes Valley (Free!): The classic "Little Church in the Woods" backdrop. At the Viewpoint of St. John Church, you can take photos with the snowy mountain church. Park at Parkplatz Filler (10 euros parking fee), no long walk needed, the kid can walk on their own. ✅ Seceda Mountain (Take the cable car to see the mountains⛰️): Take the cable car up and down the mountain. After getting off, a 15-minute flat walk leads to the best viewpoint, where you can see the mountain that inspired the apple emoji. We brought snacks for the kid to eat along the way, and they stayed energetic the whole time. ✅ Alpe di Siusi (Europe’s largest high mountain pasture): Covered with wildflowers and leisurely cows and sheep. The kid ran around like a wild pony chasing butterflies while I took photos behind—so relaxing. ✅ Lake Braies (Gem-green lake water): The lake water is as beautiful as emerald! You can rent a boat (55 euros/45 minutes). The kid sat on the boat, splashing water with their hands, giggling happily. Recommended parking is P3 (12 euros, close to the lake). Outfit: Big temperature differences in the mountains, bring a light jacket and waterproof shoes for the kid, as the grass may be wet with dew. Sun protection: Strong UV rays on the plateau, high SPF sunscreen + hat are a must. Food: Ortisei town has many pizza and pasta places that the kid can eat. In the Dolomites, you don’t have to exhaust yourself—take cable cars to enjoy the views and relax by the lake.
