A journey that makes me smile every time I think of it
The first time I set foot in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy, I was immediately captivated by the city's atmosphere. I was greeted by a clear blue sky and the sun-drenched Mediterranean Sea. The sea breeze, carrying a salty, refreshing aroma, made me breathe deeply, my body and soul relaxing. The coastline is vast and beautiful. Whether gazing at the azure horizon or strolling along the fine white sands, I could sense a relaxed, romantic atmosphere.
Beyond the natural scenery, the people of Cagliari also left an unforgettable impression. The islanders are incredibly friendly. From street vendors to busy waiters in restaurants, they all had warm smiles and were happy to share their lives and stories. Even as mere travelers, we could sense their genuine hospitality. This human touch made travel more than just sightseeing, it became a journey of connection.
The weather is also a highlight of Cagliari. The sunshine is always just the right amount—bright but not too scorching, and the gentle sea breeze makes walking along the city's cobblestone streets a pleasant experience. Compared to other busy tourist cities, the pace here is slow and leisurely, as if time itself were stretched out, allowing one to savor every moment.
Before I left, I had heard about a unique cheese in Sardinia that contains live worms, known locally as "Casu Marzu." Intrigued, I made a special trip to the shop and finally saw this legendary delicacy with my own eyes. I initially planned to muster up the courage to try it, but after a closer look at the wriggling creatures, I backed off. Although I missed out on this unique experience, just seeing it with my own eyes was a rare sight.
However, what truly remains in my memory is the pasta with egg yolk I had in Cagliari. The noodles were springy, the egg yolk rich but not greasy, and the sauce perfectly blended with the fresh ingredients, creating a simple yet soulful experience. Every bite felt like a gift from the land and sea, making it the most delicious pasta I've ever had. This surprise even surpassed my memories of the beach and the ancient city.
I think, just for that egg yolk noodles, I really want to go back to Sardinia again.
