At the fork, there is an inconspicuous forest path where the official mountain hike begins (when there are fewer people, it’s more convenient to park your car here). Walk about 1.5 km through the forest, mostly downhill and flat sections, which is relatively easy but without much scenery. Continue forward, following the stream into the canyon where the scenery improves a bit (P18). It’s similar to the scenery at Liuyang Shizhufeng Beauty Valley. However, this section is a bit more challenging, with many steep cliffside trails. If you stay focused and walk carefully, it’s manageable, but it can be quite dangerous if you misstep (this section also has quite a bit of litter). I traveled in early October when the water in the canyon was low. During the summer’s high water season, several spots likely require wading through the stream, which can be slippery and more dangerous. The first two sections have good tree cover, so it’s not very sunny. After exiting the canyon, climb steeply along the ridge line. This section is mostly covered with shrubs and has no shade. Although exposed to strong sunlight, the views are quite good, and the higher you go, the better the scenery. Further up, as the altitude increases, the vegetation changes from shrubs to mostly reed flowers. The scenery at this season is very beautiful, absolutely stunning (P1~10). After leaving the canyon, the afternoon light is mostly backlit, creating a very atmospheric lighting. The distant mountain ridges wind majestically, also very beautiful. This section truly lives up to the “Xian” (immortal/fairy) in Taihe Xian’s name.
