Wat Phu (also spelled Vat Phou and various other ways of spelling) is a ruined Khmer temple complex in the south of Laos (Champasak province) and Wat Phu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001
On either side of the temple axis there are two large buildings (the so-called "palaces"), of unknown function, each enclosing a square courtyard. These were built in the 11th or early 12th century, and still very old. The ruines are very interesting, the view from the top is great and the atmosphere is special. Champasak town is close to the temples and there are several old buildings and temples in the town as well as some guesthouses and restaurants with great Mekong river views.
Location: Muang Champasak, Pakse province, Laos 🇱🇦

Wat Phu - archaeological things in Laos
Exploring Wat Phu was a captivating journey into ancient Khmer architecture and spirituality! Climbing up its intricate stone steps, I reached a panoramic vantage point that left me in awe. The sweeping view from the top not only showcased the temple’s grandeur but also offered a breathtaking perspective of the surrounding lush landscapes. It was a rewarding climb, providing both a historical insight and a visual treat that made the visit truly memorable.

The legendary world cultural heritage, located in the ancient city of Champasak in the south of Laos, is an immortal temple with a long history and magnificent majestic temple. The famous Buddhist temple in Laos, the famous temple of Buddhism, has a very high status in the eyes of the locals. The Lao people praised it with the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia and called it the two major wins in Southeast Asia.
Unlike Angkor Wat, the area of the site preserved here is not very large. However, everything here is more refined and has a strong historical charm. If you have time, it is worthwhile to taste it.
Accounting for the ancient city of Basse, once the capital of the Kingdom of Champasak, a kingdom of southern Laos at that time, split from the Kingdom of the Kingdom in 1713. The most prosperous period of Champasak was in the eighteenth century, and then it became a subsidiary of the Khmer country. Nowadays, the Wap Temple, which has been preserved since the ancient city of Basse, can still feel the glory of the time.
The heart of the Lao people, the sacred temple, located in the very center of the ancient city of Champasak, from Pakse all the way to the foot of the temple gate, you need to climb multiple steps to reach Among the temples. Although the area of the temple is not large, when the devout believers, sitting in the temple, accompanied by the silent and mottled walls around, and devoutly telling the Buddha, the picture is still very shocking.

A well spent day at the Plateau
The Bolaven Plateau is located east of Pakse. It's a long way from the more prominent Laos attractions further north, such as Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha, and the Plain of Jars. The waterfalls, on the other hand, are truly magical. Laos, despite not having the beaches of its neighbors, has spectacular forest adventures thanks to water dropping from the sky. The Bolaven Plateau's waterfalls are worth the short drive from Pakse for luxury travelers on their way to Champasak and Don Khone for the 4,000 famed islands of the lower Mekong.

For me this has been so far my best experience in North Laos! The full view of the waterfall for now can only be viewed using the 'Fly Tadfane Zip Line! When we got here we couldn't see the loop. But the Zip Line is $40 per person but the experience is worth it and more! #wintergetaway

Si Phan Don Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
It is located just at the boarder of both countries. It is about a natural wonder of the Mekong River that is becoming very popular to see. It has already two biggest: 1) river archipelago & 2) waterfalls in Southeast Asia. The waterfalls are called "Khone Phapheng" (Mekong Falls). #wintergetaway

Four thousand US islands are not suitable for people who love to be lively. It is a person who likes to be quiet. There is nothing better than a toasting and pleasing happier with the sunset. A small boat is on the river, and the sunset is Clothing, river water for the bed, and clothing into a dream, a harmonious and quiet, it is a late return to the fisherman, is the home of life, but also the grassland in the secret island. What is missing from your trip? Maybe just leaving the quiet and self-reflection after the excitement, maybe just a sentence, "What do I need?"
From afar, they should be a pair of fathers and sons. The shape of the stern is a little thin. The bow should be a father. It must be said that the cooperation between the father and the son is very ink. So hand-to-hand, it is staged every day on the Mekong River. I don't want to say that such a picture would be seen in many years to come. After all, they also have the right to choose a modern way of life, but for the picture in front of me, I feel very warm and especially cherish.
I have to say that Dongkong Island has all my imaginations about Laos, which is unpretentious, simple, quiet and carefree.
Don Khong, Don Det, and Don Khon are the three larger islands in the 4,000-mile island. Among them, Dongkang Island is the largest. Many travel strategies say that Dongkong Island has the highest level of development, and it is recommended to make Dongde Island and Dongkuo Island. However, in terms of its own experience in the three islands, Dongkung Island has the most beautiful scenery, the lowest level of tourism development and the quietest. In contrast, Dongde Island and Dongkuo Island have a higher level of tourism development, more tourists are more noisy, and of course the activities are more convenient (closer to the location of the finless porpoise, and can be seen by bike) Very spectacular waterfall).
Khon Phapheng Falls Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)

The largest waterfall in Southeast Asia
Si Phan Don, Laos, Khone Phapheng Falls
The Mekong River originates as a glacial stream on the Tibetan Plateau and flows 4350 kilometers to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, where it meets the South China Sea. The Mekong separates into numerous arms in Champasak province in southern Laos, each wholly different from the other.
Each arm contains rapids and waterfalls a few kilometers from the Cambodian border, making sailing between the two countries impossible.
Khone Falls refers to the entire set of waterfalls and rapids. With a height of 21 meters, Khone Phapheng Waterfall is the tallest of them. The falls and their rapidity make Khone Falls the greatest, not the highest, waterfall in Southeast Asia.
