This is one of my favorite places on the island because it is quiet, it has the most spectacular views and it is sacred to the locals. Many of the local villages on the island that lives close to the cave go inside to worship. The bay is bordered by Changhua Ridge to the east and the sea to the west, shaped like an "S," about 20 kilometers long from east to west, and consists of three parts: Dajiao, Zhongjiao, and Xiao Jiao. The water here is crystal clear, the sand is fine and soft, and as white as silver. It is known as "Ten Thousand Acres of Desert Falling into Hainan" and is praised as "Hainan's Number One Wonder Bay." The name Qizi Bay comes from a romantic legend passed down for hundreds of years. Two immortals descended here, playing chess while enjoying the sea view from dawn until dusk. Local fishermen brought fish and wine to quench their thirst and hunger. Grateful for their kindness, the immortals scattered chess pieces into the sea before leaving, making the bay calm and abundant with fish and shrimp ever since. Qizi Bay is not only romantic in mythology but also rich in history. Su Dongpo, who was exiled to Hainan, once personally wrote the "Junling King Temple Stele" for the Junling King Temple here. In the inscription, he wrote, "This is the palace of Fanghu and Penglai, Junling stands alone, elegant and majestic," leaving an everlasting poetic mark on this pristine west coast sea. The most beautiful moment in Qizi Bay is at dusk. As twilight falls, the bay features both gentle beaches and jagged rocky shores, with uniquely shaped chess piece stones scattered around. The white and reddish pebbles are crystal clear under the wash of seawater. The beach at Dajiao is white and soft; walking along the red boardwalk, cacti and the sea complement each other beautifully. Zhongjiao has shallow water and small reefs, where colorful shells and small crabs hide among the rocks at low tide. Xiao Jiao faces the west of Hainan and is the best spot to watch the sunset over the sea. Fishing boats slowly return as the golden sunset illuminates the entire fishing village. Finding a hotel or guesthouse facing the sea with a wide view is also an excellent place to enjoy the sunset. When the sun sets, the sky turns orange-red, and the soft afterglow spreads over the sea, filling the view with evening clouds, making the whole world gentle and peaceful. The village road at Xiao Jiao is narrow; it is recommended to park at the public parking lot at the village entrance, which is free. Be cautious of slippery rocks when walking on the reef beach. Shayu Tang Village This is my second visit to Shayu Tang Village. The last time was during the Spring Festival a year ago, when the village was bustling with people and cars, filled with laughter everywhere, and vehicles could only be parked outside the village. This time, the village is quiet, and I could drive directly to the seaside. Only a few young people were taking photos by the swings on the beach, with fewer people and beautiful scenery. Shayu Tang Village, a small fishing village beside the island ring road on the west coast of Changjiang, Hainan, is adjacent to Qizi Bay, only ten kilometers away. Compared to the lively east coast of Hainan, this place retains the original charm of nature, allowing visitors to appreciate the vastness of the sea while enjoying the tranquility of a vacation. In the village, in front of the quiet mushroom-shaped cottages, the beach is lush with greenery. The green cacti blend with the sound of the waves, as if telling the story of the sea crashing against the shore. Fishing boats rest quietly by the shore, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, with shimmering waves creating a dreamlike scene. Compared to the popular bays in Sanya, Qizi Bay isn't as famous, so it’s less crowded. The coastal beach at Dajiao Scenic Area is very long, and the sea color is beautiful. Having a whole beach to yourself feels amazing. For transportation, self-driving or taking a taxi is recommended.
