Chanthaburi Riverside Community
Stroll around, take photos, enjoy delicious food, and stop by cafes in the Chanthaburi Riverside Community, Chanthaburi Province.
When you think of Chanthaburi Province, everyone probably thinks of beautiful beaches like Chao Lao Beach, Khung Wimarn Beach, or Khung Kraben Bay, right? Today, I'll take you for a walk in the heart of the old town. Here, you'll find famous local restaurants, chic cafes, and beautiful photo spots. I guarantee you'll love it!
This is a traditional community in the heart of Chanthaburi, composed of Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese ethnic groups. Currently, this community is considered one of the province's cultural tourist attractions. It features old buildings in the Sino-Portuguese architectural style, including gingerbread houses lining both sides of the street. Some have been renovated into accommodations, restaurants, and beautiful cafes to cater to tourists.
I highly recommend Pa Mai's Kuay Jab (rice noodle soup). Located in a wooden shophouse at the entrance of Soi San Chao, this restaurant has been serving delicious thick broth Kuay Jab for over 50 years. Its unique feature is the use of a wood-fired stove to boil the soup. If you come during lunchtime, you might have to queue for a while. After that, continue strolling around and taking photos. There are many cafes to choose from. I chose to stop at BRB Coffee, a small glass-fronted shophouse renovated from a shophouse. The air conditioning is nice and cool, perfect for escaping the heat. I tried the matcha latte and it was really good. You can also walk across the bridge to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, a beautiful Catholic church.
