The construction process was undoubtedly challenging, as it took nearly 100 years to complete, finally finishing in 1626. The church lacks a bell tower because the tower is situated on the other side of the square. This tower is a remnant of the old monastery, which was burned down and razed by the French in 1808. Hence, there is a saying: "Chinchón has a church without a tower and a tower without a church." The interior of the church is simple yet beautiful, featuring various statues of saints and virgins, as well as the "Passion Steps" that appear in the famous Chinchón Holy Saturday Passion Procession. This procession has been held since 1963 and has been declared a National Tourist Attraction. However, the most striking feature is the altarpiece at the center of the altar, which showcases Goya's painting "The Assumption of the Virgin." Located 45 kilometers from Madrid, Chinchón is easily recognizable from afar due to its hillside houses. This church was looted and burned by Napoleon's troops in 1808. The current structure, built in 1828, combines Gothic, Plateresque, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
