🌊 Sailing into Paradise: Why Comino Is the Jewel of the Maltese Islands 🇲🇹⛵
If you're heading to Malta, you absolutely can’t miss a day trip to Comino — a tiny, mostly uninhabited island that feels like the Mediterranean as it was meant to be. I visited as part of a yacht tour around the Maltese islands, and let me tell you — it was the highlight of my trip.
Crystal-clear water, hidden caves, and total peace. Here’s everything you need to know about this slice of paradise:
✈️ Getting There:
I flew into Malta International Airport, spent a couple of days exploring the main island, then booked a catamaran day tour that included Comino.
Tours leave from Bugibba, Sliema, or Cirkewwa.
You can also get there by small ferry, but the yacht experience is 100% worth it — fewer crowds, music, drinks, and swimming stops!
📅 Best Time to Visit:
May to October is beach season, with June and September being the sweet spot: warm weather, clear sea, and fewer crowds than in July–August.
Weekdays are calmer — weekends can get packed.
🏝️ Top Things to See on Comino:
✅ Blue Lagoon – iconic, insanely blue, and shallow enough for a relaxing swim. Get there early or by boat to avoid the midday crowds.
✅ Crystal Lagoon – less crowded, deeper, and perfect for snorkeling or cliff diving. Many yacht tours anchor here.
✅ Comino Tower – a small hike from the bay takes you to this old watchtower with amazing views. History + nature in one.
✅ Caves & coves – your boat will likely stop for cave exploring. Some are hidden, others glow bright blue inside!
🏖️ Beach & Chill Vibes:
Comino has no hotels or big developments — it’s all about raw, natural beauty.
Bring a towel, reef shoes, sunblock, and snacks. There are limited kiosks near the Blue Lagoon, but prices are high.
There’s little shade, so a hat and water are musts!
⚠️ Tips & Lifehacks:
Don’t expect Wi-Fi — and honestly, that’s the beauty of it. Disconnect and dive in.
Some parts of the island have jellyfish warnings — check with your boat crew before jumping in.
Wear a swimsuit under your clothes — you’ll be in and out of the water all day.
GoPro or waterproof phone case = a must. The water is that photogenic.
❤️ Most Memorable Moment:
Floating in the Crystal Lagoon, surrounded by towering cliffs and neon-blue water, with silence all around except the splash of swimmers and the occasional seabird. No filters needed — it’s really that blue.
