2024 Copenhagen Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Copenhagen is the capital city of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is a city that does a perfect job of combining classical antiquity with modern life. People have given Copenhagen honorable names such as "the Paris of Northern Europe", as the city holds many palaces, castles and other examples of ancient architecture. The whole place is completely suffused with an artistic atmosphere. As you stroll down the streets, you will see more statues than you can possibly count, along with art centers and museums. One of the city's main attractions is the Little Mermaid statue. It is located at Copenhagen's beautiful seaside promenade, Langelinie. In fact, author Hans Christian Andersen spent more than half of his life in Copenhagen and many of his most famous works were penned here.

Visiting Copenhagen was an elegant and historical experience in one of the most beautiful cities in Northern Europe!
The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, has a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. I started my journey by exploring Nyhavn, a colorful waterfront area famous for its wooden boats and brightly colored buildings. Walking along the canal was very relaxing, and the area was filled with cafes and restaurants offering delicious food. 🚤🏘️
I also visited Amalienborg Palace, where the royal family resides, and witnessed the changing of the guard in a unique scene reflecting the country's ancient traditions. The palace itself reflects the beauty of Danish architecture, and being in such a historically significant place was fascinating. 😘🏛️
No visit to Copenhagen is complete without seeing the famous statue of 'The Little Mermaid,' one of the city's symbols. The statue is small but located by the sea, making it a peaceful spot perfect for meditation and relaxation. 🧜♀️🌊
One of the most amazing moments was visiting Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. The lights and decorations were fantastic, and the lively atmosphere added to the joy of the trip. 🎡🎠
Copenhagen is a city where history, art, and nature blend seamlessly and elegantly. My visit was a wonderful experience, and I felt in harmony with the peaceful and culturally rich life there!

Copenhagen | Must visit design store in Copenhagen
Montana Store
Address: Bredgade 24, 1260 København, Denmark
In addition to the renowned HAY, Denmark is home to many other brands with distinctive design aesthetics, and Montana is one I stumbled upon that turned out to be quite impressive.
The first floor primarily showcases various office setups, featuring simple desks and bookshelves. Through thoughtful color combinations and designs, they create a unique style.
The lower level offers even more inspiration for home design, showcasing everything from bathroom areas to living rooms, all exhibiting versatile and stylish designs.

Copenhagen | The brilliant hotel with nice interior design
Hotel SKT. Annæ
Sankt Annæ Pl. 18, 1250 Copenhagen, Denmark
💰£120 per night
I had long heard about the excellence of Nordic design, and this trip truly opened my eyes. The first hotel I stayed at in Copenhagen was Hotel SKT. Annæ, just a 5-minute walk from the famous Nyhavn. The location is excellent.
The interior design of the hotel is sophisticated and elegant, with seating at the entrance surrounded by lush greenery, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. On the ground floor, there's a dining area, as well as spaces for guests to enjoy a drink or get some work done.
There’s a fireplace, sofas, and when night falls, candles are lit, adding a cozy ambiance.
The rooms aren't particularly large but are well-designed, with a warm wood-tone style and brown bedside lamps. Opening the curtains, you can also get a view of the hotel's lobby. It’s a very comfortable stay.

48 hours Flash trip to Copenhagen? Why not!
Copenhagen.
48-hour flash trip to Copenhagen? Why not!
Copenhagen, known as *the capital of Hygge*, is expensive for everything (except for transportation). Hence, here are 10 free attractions and money-saving tips for Copenhagen:
1. Stroll around Nyhavn. Whether it's daytime or evening, it offers different vibes.
2. Visit the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum on the last Wednesday of each month for free. The second floor showcases works by Impressionist masters like Monet, Van Gogh, and Gauguin.
3. Visit Thorvaldsens Museum for free every Wednesday.
4. Wondering around the Open market: TorvehallerneKBH in the city center. The food is expensive though, so just feast with your eyes.
5. Wander the streets. Along Gråbrødretorv, Strøget, or Værnedamsvej, you'll find old houses, cafes, and home goods stores filled with Hygge elements.
6. Visit Nordic churches. Surprisingly, most churches in Copenhagen are free to enter. Whether it's the minimalist Church of Our Lady or the grand Frederik's Church with the largest dome in Scandinavia, they bring a sense of inner peace.
7. Explore the Royal Library, and take a walk along the canal to admire Nordic architecture.
8. Check out Nyboder, a filming location for *The Danish Girl*. These rows of simple yellow buildings, built in the 17th and 18th centuries, were once naval barracks. Nearby, Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress, is still an active military base. There are guards at the entrance, but locals prefer jogging around its walls.
9. Travelling from the airport to the city, whether by train or metro, it costs only DKK 30 (HKD 33.6), which is quite reasonable for European airport transportation. Metro day passes are also available—details can be found via the DOT Ticket app.
10. If accommodation in Copenhagen is too expensive, consider staying in nearby cities like Malmö or Helsingør, which are within an hour's travel time. Factoring in transportation costs, it might be cheaper than staying in Copenhagen itself.
Some might say traveling to Scandinavia is always expensive, and that people without money shouldn’t go. But this journey to discover Nordic happiness led me to read *The Little Book of Hygge* before my trip, and I learned that Hygge isn’t about spending more to gain happiness. If high costs make you uncomfortable, you’ve missed the point of Hygge.

Organ Church|Flew to Copenhagen for this church
Organ Church, originally named Grundtvig's Church, is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. This church is one of the few expressionist-style churches and is one of the famous churches in Copenhagen.
The church was built to commemorate the Danish theologian, writer, and poet Grundtvig. Because the exterior of the church resembles an organ, locals affectionately call it the 'Organ Church.'
The church was designed by the famous Danish designer Jensen Klint. The interior of the church is typically Gothic but without any decorations, which helps to highlight the verticality of Gothic architecture. It also expresses the purity of modernist space and has a modern minimalist aesthetic tendency.
In addition to its organ-like exterior, the church also has a spectacular organ at the west end of the nave. The largest pipe weighs 425 kilograms and is 11 meters long, making it the largest in the entire Nordic region.

On our first day, we were exploring the history district. We started our day with a visit to Nyhavn, a picturesque canal lined with colorful buildings. We also visited the Rosenborg Castle, a beautiful Renaissance castle surrounded by gardens.
Rosenborg Castle
📍Øster Voldgade 4A, 1350 København, Denmark.
We also try out Restaurant Schønnemann. It was recommended by my friend. The restaurant is known for its traditional Danish cuisine. I would recommend you to try out their Smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) 🥪 That was my favorite item out of all the we tried! And the price was considered reasonable.
We also visited the Black Diamond (Det Kongelige Bibliotek), an iconic modern library with striking architecture. I would also recommend you to explore the National Museum of Denmark that showcasing Danish history and culture. I find it very interesting and worth to visit.

We also spent some times to take a bike ride along the waterfront at the Islands Brygge Harbour Bath, where we were given chance to swim in the clean harbor waters, but we didn’t as we forgot to bring extra clothes.
📍Islands Brygge 14, 2300 København S, Denmark.
We also visited Torvehallerne, a vibrant food market offering a wide range of local produce and delicacies. We definitely love the vibes and food from the market. Worth to visit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most beautiful church in Europe
📍Iglesia de Grundtvig, På Bjerget 14B, 2400 København NV, Denmark
I'm not a sentimental person, but I was indeed moved to tears by this church that resembles a work of art. I took countless photos from every angle, but still reluctantly didn't want to leave.
This church is composed of simplicity, symmetry, and tranquility. As you walk slowly in it, you feel as if this is not the real world, because everything is too perfect. The photos presented in the phone also make me amazed, feeling that every place can be photographed, really can shoot all day - from morning to night. When tired, you can sit on the wooden bench and listen to the organ performance🎵Close your eyes or look up at the dome, what a wonderful enjoyment~
Even if you don't want to sit on the bench, if the staff allows, you can even sit on the ground, because different angles will show different beauty, art really needs to be felt in all directions and greedily!
And I am curious about the mentality of the staff working in such a beautiful church, I have to sigh at the gap in blessings between people. Perhaps they think it is commonplace to go to work every day, but in the eyes of us travelers/photographers, they have long been integrated with this church: their appearance at work and this kind of church complement each other, forming a series of works of art, showing to the world.
Art has no limits, there is no such thing as not being able to shoot
Suggestion: If you have enough time, take a shot in the morning sun, come again in the evening sunset, and the night lights have different effects. Three sets of different feeling photos, can definitely perfectly check in this organ church.
Step into the Copenhagen Danish Museum of Art & Design and appreciate the charm of Danish design
The Copenhagen Danish Museum of Art & Design is located at 68 Bredgade in Copenhagen, a historic old-style building. The museum houses a large collection of art and design works, displaying some decorations and artworks from the late Middle Ages to the present.
Here, you can admire the outstanding achievements of many world-renowned Danish designers in the fields of design and architecture. These works not only have the characteristics of minimalism and functionalism, but also use new industrial technologies, with strong practicality and foresight. Among them, the Egg Chair, PH Lamp, and Sydney Opera House design have become typical and are still widely used and produced.
The museum often holds some short-term exhibitions, and various collections have strong ornamental value, which is very worth visiting. Visiting the Danish Museum of Art & Design takes about 1-2 hours.
In addition, there are attractions such as Amalienborg Palace and The Little Mermaid statue around the museum, and you can arrange your itinerary according to your interests.
I hope the above guide will help you better understand and experience the Copenhagen Danish Museum of Art & Design.
Wokshop-Amager Copenhagen 🇩🇰 🍤🍱
Address - Address: Reberbanegade 3, 2300 København, Denmark
Price: ££
Ambiance/Facilities - Spacious and modern
Highlights - Authentic sculptures
After a spent a day at the beach in Amager Strandpark and at the end our day from a shopping trip in Amagercenteret, we decided to visit Wokshop Amager Thai restaurant in Copenhagen.
Entering into a modern and stylish interior you’ll immediately will notice some authentic furniture and Asian sculptures decorates the walls of the restaurant in Amager.
We were pleased to find this hidden gem in Copenhagen. Tasty Thai food in Amager serving classic dishes that you can try taste of Thailand. Our friendly waitress suggested great dishes from the menu and we found out that the chefs were all the way from Thailand, including our head chef, which put great effort to preparing our food tastes authentic.
We started with sharing small dishes such as chicken satay which we both loved, it’s served with delicious aromatic flavour with a peanut sauce and also ordered my all time favourite Tom Yum soup with prawns.
If you prefer hot and spicy dishes like us then try some of their wok stir-fried, thinly sliced ginger beef dishes and steaming, delicious red curry dishes in different flavors, cooked with coconut milk, kaffir lime leaves, Thai aubergines and sweet Thai basil.
End of our dinner, with the best of Thailand's sweet cuisine we also had Fried banana.
We ordered their signature drinks too, definitely not disappointed with either! The food portion of our both main dishes, curry and ginger beef almost plenty enough for 2 people. The price is reasonable considering the amount of the food served. We loved the atmosphere and authentic interior. Everything was very clean and they pay attention to detail, with natural flowers and scented candles.
Overall we had a great evening dining experience at the Wokshop Amager, the food was fresh, flavorful and perfectly blended spices to made us feel the heat! Highly recommended, we hope to be back next time visiting Copenhagen .

A city by the water 💦 Copenhagen 🇩🇰
Previously a Viking fishing village, Copenhagen became Denmark’s most important and popular capital city.
Our very first day we visited the colourful harbour in the Nyhavn district, which is one of the city’s most photographed scenic spots, definitely you can’t missed this neighbourhood as it’s instantly recognisable for its vintage boats and rainbow coloured buildings with cafes, bars and restaurants.
The day start with a lovely breakfast and freshly baked Danish pastries 🥮 by night cool nightlife in Vesterbro to the green and chic boulevards in Frederiksberg. Charming Østerbro should be added to bucket list for its parks and shopping. The vintage townhouses and picturesque canals are if you’re after, you’ll find many of them in Christianshavn – a district made up of a small cluster of islands. A few places you’ll love visiting and seeing whilst in Copenhagen are; Changing of the guard at Amalienborg Palace, taking a selfie in front of The Little Mermaid statue, boat canal tours and a day in historic Tivoli gardens.
Copenhagen also renowned with its great restaurants; Michelin stars and fine dinning experiences should be on your list too. Do you love to bring some souvenirs back? Royal Danish porcelains are hand-painted and beautiful 🤩

We started with sharing portions of mezes such as homemade hummus, charcoal aubergine and grilled prawns which were tasty and decent portions. For mains, we all went for stone oven whole fish cooked with white wine sauce, capers, olives, fennel, tomatoes served in a hot cast iron pan. 🐟 Also salads as side fish, a few cocktails, then with mains a nice bottle of white wine, desserts at the end. Delicious and fresh food, well made and served with an attentive staff member. 🍷

📍 Coco Hotel & Bar à Vin, Copenhagen Denmark 🇩🇰
My Tip: Try their wine testing menu or a glass of champagne at Coco Bar à Vin, their extensive wine collection is located on the ground floor and there is a lovely courtyard open for summer months.
