It has been an important town in eastern Shaanxi since ancient times, truly known as the "Eastern Prefecture" by the locals. Although it suffered repeated destruction from wars throughout history, several historical sites remain. Today, with the weather clear, I decided to visit. The Daici Cenlou, also known as the Dongyue Temple Music Tower, is located in Dazhaizi Village, Chaoyi Town, Dali County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. A key cultural relic under provincial protection, it was first built in the eighth year of the Zhenghe reign of the Northern Song Dynasty (1118). The existing main structure is a remnant of a Ming Dynasty reconstruction. It features a double-eaved, three-tiered hip roof covered with green glazed tiles. The patterns on the main ridge, hip ridges, gable ridges, and surrounding ridges, as well as the gable designs on the sides, are exquisite, making it a rare and valuable ancient building in Shaanxi. Its geographical location was extremely important. During the Tang Dynasty, a pontoon bridge was built across the Yellow River connecting Shaanxi and Shanxi. The famous Yellow River Iron Oxen stood on both banks to stabilize the bridge. Recently, four Tang Dynasty iron oxen and iron figures on the Shanxi side have been unearthed, shocking the nation and attracting countless tourists, becoming a famous tourist attraction (Pujindu). The four iron oxen on the Dali side are still buried in the silt of the Yellow River. We can only hope that they will be discovered by chance someday, thanks to future technological advancements.
