May is here to review a self-guided 1-day trip to Xiling Snow Mountain by high-speed train and then bus. 📅 January 1, 2025 This trip, as a prelude, was originally planned for a relaxing Chengdu trip, walking around and taking photos. However, Xiling couldn't resist the beauty of the mountain, so we went without a plan (though we had done some research). We chose to travel by high-speed train and then by bus. 📍High-speed train booking and transportation - We booked through Trip the morning of our trip. We typed "Chengdu to Dayi." There are a lot of train schedules, but... be careful about where you board from Chengdu. What's the connection? - Chengdu's high-speed rail network has four main stops: North, South, West, and East. However, the train to Dayi, as seen on the Trip app, only has three stations: South (Chengdunan), East (Chengdudong), and West (Chengduxi). All three stations can be reached by metro (search for a Chengdu Metro Map on Google for easy navigation). Or download the MetroMan app. - We chose to board from South (Chengdunan) because it was convenient and close to our accommodation on Chunxi Road. We took Metro Line 3 and transferred to Metro Line 1 at Sichuan Gym Station. Once on Line 1, we rode two more stops to South Railway Station. We found Exit F, which connects us to the South Railway Station building (so you don't have to worry about getting lost). There are signs along the way. - Upon arriving at the South Railway Station building, scan your passport (either the far left or the far right) and check your baggage. - Check in the Trip app to see which gate you're boarding. If it's Gate 1, it's on the same floor as the baggage check-in. If it's Gate 2, 3, or 4, go up to the second floor. - Line up, scan your passport again (either the far left or the far right), and then go down to wait according to your train number. - I chose to take the high-speed train from South Station (Chengdunan) because it takes about 20 minutes to get to Dayi. Standing time is easy. 📍At Dayi Station, take the bus to Xiling Snow Mountain. - Once you get off the high-speed train, look for the escalator exit sign. You'll see a blue panda skiing sign along the way. Follow the signs. My sister will take us to the bus. - Bus times from Dayi Station to Xiling Snow Mountain: 7:20, 8:55, 9:25, 11:10, 12:30, 13:35, 14:40, 15:35 - When the bus arrives, open Alipay and wait. Go up to the right, near the driver's barrier. There will be a QR code for each person to pay 18 yuan. (The bus is similar to our buses in Thailand. If it's late and crowded, you have to stand the entire time.) The trip takes approximately 1.20-1.40 hours, depending on how often it stops to pick up passengers. 📍Returning to Chengdu - Get off the bus at Xiling Snow Mountain and return to that stop. - Return bus times from Xiling Snow Mountain to Dayi Station are 9:20, 10:55, 11:25, 13:10, 14:30, 15:35, 16:40, and 17:40. - It's a good idea to book your high-speed train return time to avoid missing the bus. It runs until 2-3 PM. (The last bus is also the high-speed train back to Chengdu.) - Return trip: The same as the inbound trip. Pros: Traveling by high-speed train and bus: There are many departures throughout the day, so you don't have to worry about running out of buses. And, in my opinion, it's faster than taking the bus from Chengdu (20 minutes + 1.5 hours). Cons: Traveling by high-speed train and bus: You have to transfer once. Bus seats are not reserved. After enjoying the view, take the Ri Yue Ping cable car back down to Ying Xue Square. (This is a great photo spot.) Enjoy activities at Ski Area A, B, or C, depending on your preference. The ski area is 2,200 meters high. 2-Day Route Day 1: Start from the Tourist Center 🔸Take the first cable car to Yuan Yang Chi Tourist Center (10 minutes). 🔸Take a local bus to Ying Xue Square (10 minutes). 🔸Enjoy activities at Ski Area A, B, or C, depending on your preference. 🔸Stay one night. Day 2 🔸From the hotel, take the second section of the cable car, the Ri Yue Ping Cableway, to enjoy the view from the top at 3,250 meters. 🔸After enjoying the view, take the Ri Yue Ping cable car back down to Ying Xue Square. Then, take the bus back to the first section of the cable car, Yuan Yang Chi, and get off at Tourist Center. Then, return to Chengdu. **Recommended: Stay in the first cable car area in the morning, as the fog can be very thick in the afternoon.
