Shangri-La Dukezong Ancient Town, average 80+ per person, floor heating + negative ion oxygen supply On the second day in Shangri-La, I found a nice homestay near the ancient town. It has 4 floors and quite a few rooms with many themed styles. The rooms are spacious and bright, mainly clean and comfortable. I really like this tatami style. The room does not face the street, so it is very quiet. The room has floor heating, 24-hour hot water, negative ion oxygen supply, and is fully equipped with daily necessities... I especially like this small bar counter, where I can sit after a shower to have a late-night snack, drink something, and chat, which feels very relaxing. The location is near the East Gate of Dukezong Ancient Town, very convenient for transportation. It’s about a two-minute walk to the ancient town and only 5 minutes to the prayer wheels, very convenient. It’s super easy to get to Pudacuo National Park and Feilai Temple by car. It’s only a 10-minute drive from Shangri-La Station and 6-7 minutes from the airport. Plus, there’s free parking 🅿️ and an automatic washing machine... I sincerely recommend staying at this place when you come to Shangri-La! •

This is a very niche attraction~ How niche? From the moment I arrived until I left, I only encountered a few groups of tourists, no more than 20 people in total, and some were locals coming for mountain circumambulation. Probably because it’s quite far and tiring… But when I stood in front of the Prince Temple, seeing the prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and the glacier winding down like a giant python from the foot of Kawagebo… At that moment, I felt it was all worth it… 🔍 Navigate to “Mingyong Glacier,” about a 1-hour drive from Feilai Temple. There is a bumpy dirt road section after crossing the Lancang River, but the rest of the road is quite good. A round trip taxi from Feilai Temple costs about 300 RMB. 💰Costs and Experience 🎫 Ticket 55 RMB + sightseeing bus 75 RMB (if you don’t take the bus, you have to walk 7-8 km uphill) 🚗 The 15-minute ride feels like a roller coaster, climbing several hundred meters straight up to the hiking start point. After that, you can either hike or ride a horse. 🐴 Horse ride to Prince Temple costs 220 RMB, to the summit Lotus Temple costs 380 RMB. I didn’t ride a horse and hiked all the way to Lotus Temple. The first half has some tiring stairs and limited views in the forest, but once you reach Prince Temple, it opens up beautifully! The prayer flags and the winding glacier under the plateau sunlight are breathtakingly beautiful!! Every casual shot is a great photo~ 📸 It’s highly recommended to come in the morning! In the afternoon, the glacier is shadowed by the mountain and loses much of its charm. 🚶🏻‍♀️ Hiking Tips: ▪️ Prince Temple is the first key spot where prayer flags, temple, and glacier appear in the same frame, very photogenic. ▪️ Beyond Prince Temple, there are three viewing platforms where you can see ice cracks and patterns up close. You’ll pass them if you follow the boardwalk. The dirt path bypasses them. The viewing platforms offer a close-up view of the glacier’s texture, but photos aren’t as beautiful as those from Prince Temple and Lotus Temple. ▪️ The dirt path is a horse trail, faster than the boardwalk but a bit difficult to walk. The boardwalk is easier but longer. ▪️ There’s a big temperature difference; it’s a bit cold in the forest on the dirt path. But at noon under the sun, it’s warm enough for short sleeves. ▪️ The full hike takes about 3-4 hours. Lotus Temple is at about 3300 meters elevation. There are no supplies along the way, so bring enough water and snacks.
