Visited Gundam at 🛍️ LaLaport Fukuoka It was huge and super cool 🤖✨ Planned to sleep at the airport since my flight was at 6 AM. But… the airport was under renovation. Sleeping inside wasn’t allowed 😭 Ended up sleeping at the bus stop outside the airport with a group of foreign travelers. Adjacent to it lies the main street known as "Aso Monzenmachi Shopping Street," which serves as the approach to the over 2,500-year-old Aso Shrine. This street is lined with charming old general stores, souvenir shops, and cafes. Strolling along the tree-shaded shopping street allows visitors to leisurely explore the area after paying their respects at Aso Shrine, savor local delicacies, and immerse themselves in the unique cultural atmosphere. Along the way, you'll also notice the "Mizuki" springs scattered throughout. "Mizuki" refers to drinking water spots. The spring water in Ichinomiya Town is sweet and has been regarded as the fountain of longevity since ancient times. The locals have always cherished and appreciated these springs. Over time, to allow more people to enjoy this pure and sweet spring water, around 20 wooden or stone "Mizuki" spots have been set up along the street to welcome visitors.

Stroll around, shop, and enjoy the charming atmosphere. During the autumn foliage season, the area around Kinrin Lake is adorned with green, yellow, orange, and red leaves, creating a breathtaking view.

A self-driving tour of Mount Aso is very convenient. Departing from a hotel near Kumamoto Airport at 10:00 AM, the drive takes about 40 minutes to reach Kusasenri. You can stop at the observation deck for photos. If there are many people, you can drive directly to the parking lot in front of the Mount Aso Museum (parking fee is generally 500 yen for four-wheeled vehicles). After taking photos and resting, continue driving for less than 10 minutes to reach the bus stop, which is also the entrance to the volcano. Further in, there are two control points: the first informs visitors that those with asthma or related illnesses are advised against going up the crater; the second is for parking, which costs 1000 yen per vehicle. Continue driving for about 5 to 10 minutes to reach the crater parking lot. After parking, you can walk to the crater for photos. If the wind direction changes, staff will restrict entry, and you will need to wait for the wind to change before you can enter again.

(15:05 required to arrive early for a briefing.) Price: ¥12,000 for 7 minutes. The flight was very stable, the weather was great, and the crater was clearly visible. Highly recommended! 👍🏻 P.S.: 1. The online listing says opening time is 10:00, but it seemed like people were already queuing at 9:00! 2. Each flight carries 3 people. Aso Volcano in Kyushu, Japan 🌋 is composed of five peaks ⛰️ and is one of the largest calderas in the world. The Nakadake First Crater 🌋 is still actively emitting smoke 💨 and occasionally erupts 🔥. Therefore, visiting Aso Volcano 🌋 requires a bit of luck 🍀. Staff assess daily weather conditions ☀️, wind direction, volcanic activity, and gas concentration to determine if visitors can ascend. On average, only half of the visitors get the chance to see the volcano's interior each year. Early in the morning, we departed from Hakata, feeling a bit worried 😟 about potential closures. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to join the ARIAIR 15-minute helicopter 🚁 tour we had specially booked to get a close-up view of this active volcano 🤩! The moment the helicopter took off, my heart raced 💓 as the breathtaking scenery unfolded like a painting 👏. Vast green fields, the volcanic crater, and lakes were all in full view 🏞️. The pilot 👨✈️ also provided a brief introduction to the history of Aso Volcano 📜, giving us a deeper understanding of this magnificent geological wonder 🌋. During the flight, the interplay of clouds and sunlight outside the window ☀️ made for stunning photos and videos 📸, each one postcard-worthy 😆. Even after landing, my heart was still racing 💥, feeling the heat of the earth and the sound of the wind intertwined 🚁. It was truly an unforgettable experience 👍. Afterward, we headed to the volcano observation area by land. Due to the high-temperature gases 💨 emitted by Aso Volcano 🌋, which contain high concentrations of sulfur dioxide, and the highly acidic sulfuric acid 🧪 in the volcanic lake, the air near the observation area was filled with harmful gases ⚠️, causing immediate eye 👁️ and throat 🗣️ irritation. From the observation deck 🗻, we could see the crater continuously emitting smoke, resembling the breath of nature 💨, which was truly eye-opening 🤩. As this is an active volcano 🌋, there are many evacuation shelters 🛡️ scattered around. After taking a photo nearby, an alarm suddenly sounded 🚨, and many staff members rushed out to instruct us to evacuate immediately. It turned out that the volcano 🌋 had suddenly become more active, with thick smoke 💨 continuously spewing out and harmful gas concentrations rising sharply ⚠️, prompting an immediate evacuation and closure of the area. We then visited Kusasenri-ga-hama 🌾, a vast plain in the area where we could see herds of horses 🐎 leisurely grazing and enjoy views of the smoke from Nakadake's eruptions. It’s so refreshing and soothing to the eyes and the soul 🌿 To the left, you can spot Mount Aso, an active volcano. On the day I visited, there was an eruption warning, so we couldn’t get closer. But honestly, just seeing it from afar was already so impressive! It’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and give your tired mind a little break. 🫶 Around the area, there are adorable horses walking around 🐎 You can even ride them or take photos, but there’s an additional fee (not included in the tour). After exploring, there are plenty of food options nearby — from restaurants and souvenir shops to grilled horse meat skewers, which are quite famous here!
