#easytravelpost Mount Marubinok (locally "Marubinok," ~800 m) is the high point behind Virac on Catanduanes, facing the Pacific. I flew Manila→Virac (₱3,000, limited flights), tricycle to the San Andres trailhead (1 hr, ₱150), registered with the barangay (₱50 donation, cash), walked 2 hrs up. The mossy shore cliff is the east face where the mountain drops to the Pandan coastline: Racomitrium and Dicranum on the exposed agta rock where the sea wind hits, Sphagnum in the seep above the coconut line, and the view takes in the Pacific horizon with no island between. I walked it at 06:00, a white-breasted sea eagle over the surf, the moss dripping though it hadn't rained in a week—Catanduanes trades wind keeps it wet. No hut, no signal, carry 3 L. Mistake: I came in October and a typhoon signal closed the trail—Nov–May stable, watch PAGASA. Another: I wore a cotton tee and the wind chill at 800 m was real; wind shell. Would you trek Marubinok from San Andres for the mossy Pacific cliff and base in Virac, or pair it with a Twin Lakes (Catanduanes) side trip?

SILI (Chilli ICE CREAM 🌶 Sili Ice Cream may appear to be tasty, but don't be fooled as it’s not your typical ice cream. The ice cream's strawberry appearance is really appealing. Wait until you try the chilled dessert. Your tongue will tingle, followed by your palate, and as you finish the bowl with the final drop, you may be overtaken with spice. Just keep a few fresh cucumber slices on hand to keep your lips cool. It's one of the original desserts from Bicol. Ice cream with a Sili spice to it. The sili ice cream, created by the 1st Colonial Grill in 2004, uses the local symbol of Bicol, the chilli, to create a unique ice cream flavor. Its main ingredients include "siling labuyo" and coconut milk.
