I took the plunge and went on my first solo trip last month. From Birmingham (UK) to Helsinki (Finland)… Not the most ‘exotic’ or enthralling trip, but it was grounding. There’s so much nature and overall relaxed vibe to the country. Exactly what I needed at the time after I had just left my job literally the day before😂 I went on a ferry for the first time too to visit Suomenlinna island (photos 3 and 4) which is only twenty minutes away from the capital. Stayed with extended family in the nearby city Espoo. I toured Espoo and Helsinki, and also took a trip to beautiful beaches of Nöykkiö - would defo recommend!! I was blessed to be hosted and save money on hotels etc. Things are definitely on the pricier side (food and even the art museum) in #finland so be prepared for that. Some buildings from my last visit to Helsinki (late Feb). Weather was surprisingly warm, can't say sunny, but still good. My Helsinki transport card was blocked for inactivity so I had to visit HSL service center. Recommend to check out Boneless smashburgers and Huone tea shop/cafe. I won't reccomend going Suomenlinna during winter but otherwise it's definately worth to came there. Helsinki museums are very good but can cost alot, so best idea is to buy museum card- it's have 1 year duration for cost of around 4-5 museums

📍Marimekko Headquarters Going here was my main purpose in Helsinki👗 Marimekko outlet and company cafeteria Maritori. This year is Unikko's 60th anniversary, so we were greeted by Unikko sofas. First thing in the morning, I looked around the outlet, and had lunch at the long-awaited company cafeteria Maritori. Of course, all the tableware is Marimekko. Salad? Appetizer? I was greedy because I could take as much as I wanted, and I ended up not knowing what was on the Marimekko plate🤣 Not only was it colorful and beautiful, but it also had a gentle taste and was very delicious, like "living a careful life". You can choose between meat and vegetarian main dishes, and I chose meat. Most people come to Helsinki because they have to transfer here for most of the day, so I did a lot of research before I came. Many friends chose the one-day or even half-day travel guides provided by many people. At that time, I was thinking that I could play so much, maybe the two and a half days itinerary could be filled up. But after coming here, I found out that maybe it's not everyone's fault, this city is really small, so small that you can finish most of the check-in spots in this city without even taking a transportation tool for a whole day. But, although Helsinki is small, there may also be places that are really worth it here. Although it has been raining for three consecutive days, you can also take the photos you have been looking forward to here. There are unique positions of the red and white church taken by one person walking on the main street of the city when the sky is not bright in the early morning; there is a peaceful atmosphere felt in the temple square church built by stone piles, surrounded by candles and listening to organ music; there is a Christmas atmosphere in the Nordic countries, although not much, but still exists; since it is rainy, then here may really only belong to the rainy night, two days to walk through the whole city, also took the tram at night that I have been thinking about since I left Lisbon. This place may not really be a foodie's paradise, even the famous deer meat may not be anything special (friends feel like beef after eating), but at least you can drink to your heart's content at Kappeli, and the salmon soup is very delicious. This place also proves the environmental awareness of the Nordic people. The first feeling of coming to Helsinki is orderly. The tram shuttling through the city is the most convenient transportation tool in this city, making the whole city look particularly neat and quiet. Even in the heavy rain, the streets and every shop you walk into are clean and tidy, with classified trash cans and electric scooters everywhere, the best quality drinking water in the world, and the tram station and city architecture style that look cold and simple enough in the Nordic style. In the wooden house hotel built by the mountain forest where I chose to stay on the second day, almost everything is recyclable. From the restaurant to the furnishings and materials in the room, almost all are made of recyclable wood. Try not to buy new ones. Even the building itself is said to be bought from the activity center here by the front desk sister, jokingly saying that even the building itself is recycled, including the amount of breakfast will not be too much to avoid unnecessary waste. Even here there is a quite special habit, that is, the number of times to clean the house, the front desk sister said if the guest stays for a long time, whether to clean or not during the period is according to the customer's wishes, if the customer does not require cleaning, generally for sustainable development, will choose to clean once every three days, the resources that can be saved can be used to plant a tree for free.
