With its slow-moving streetcars, the incredibly atmospheric Kumamoto Castle, and Kumamon popping up everywhere you look 😂 Here’s our itinerary for this trip: 📍Kumamoto Castle 🏯 The absolute classic landmark of Kumamoto. Catching it in the evening with the streetcars rolling by gives off major Japanese anime vibes. 📍Spotting Kumamon 🐻 Downtown Kumamoto is literally packed with Kumamon, You can spot him at stations, in malls, on the streets, and even on the streetcars 😂 📍Amakusa 🌊 A super therapeutic coastal region in Kumamoto, It's perfect for a scenic, unhurried coastal road trip. 📍Furengi Lullaby Park (Ocean Views near Furyu Island) 🌉 A hidden gem of a coastal route, it's absolutely breathtaking on a clear day. 📍Kousa Shrine (Koura Taisha Shrine) ⛩️ A shrine with a deep, mystical forest vibe and a wonderfully serene atmosphere, Perfect for anyone who loves exploring off-the-beaten-path countryside spots in Japan. 🚗 Road Trip Tips: You can easily get around downtown Kumamoto by tram and take it slow, But if you're heading to Amakusa, renting a car is highly recommended. ✨ Quick Tips: · Kumamoto Castle is amazing for photos at dusk 📸 · Amakusa has tons of coastal highways, so try to go on a sunny day ☀️ · There's so much Kumamon merch around, watch out or you'll buy too much 😂 · Convenience stores are sparse on some routes in Amakusa, so stock up on snacks and drinks beforehand!

📍Spot Location & Important Notes for Visitors⚠️ ① Kuratake Shrine 3409-1 Tanazoko, Kuratake-cho, Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture Located on a mountaintop, the road leading to it is quite narrow. It's barely wide enough for one large car to pass, and if you encounter oncoming traffic, you'll need to pass in a designated passing space or a wider section of the road. The winding mountain road has poor visibility and almost no curve mirrors. There are also sections where the road is narrowed by mud and rocks. Therefore, drivers who are not accustomed to driving here, or those with large vehicles such as family cars, should exercise caution. (Even for someone like me, who lives in the countryside and is used to narrow mountain roads, the distance to the summit gave me a thrill! lol) There are three parking spaces: ① a few cars near the summit, ② about 10 cars about a 5-minute walk away, ③ about 20 cars about a 10-minute walk away 🚗 For those unfamiliar with narrow roads, I recommend parking at the largest parking area, ③, which is the first one you reach as you go up, and walking to the summit. ② Okoshiki Coast Toguchi-cho, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture The best time to see the beautiful sand patterns is approximately two hours before and after low tide. Check the low tide time for your visit in advance 📝 The Uto City website has a calendar showing the best and near-best days to see the beautiful sand patterns and sunsets! Although the road leading up to the observation deck is narrow, there's a spacious parking lot near the observation deck! On days when many people visit, such as on days with spectacular views, a temporary parking space is set up next to Amida Junior High School at the foot of the mountain. If you're not confident driving on the narrow roads, park there and walk up for about 15 minutes. · The land in front of the observation deck is privately owned and is apparently opened to the public out of kindness. Please observe proper etiquette while visiting, such as not climbing the embankment as it is prone to landslides, and returning to the pathways when moving between terraced fields. ③ Osabeta Seashore Road 3125-1 Sumiyoshi-cho, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture You can see the road being swallowed by the sea starting about 2 to 2.5 hours before high tide. You can walk across the road for about 2 to 3 hours before and after low tide. Check the tide times to match the view you want to see! The seashore road is a road for fishermen, so general vehicles are prohibited. Please park in the "Sumiyoshi Coast Park" parking lot and explore on foot! ④ Nagao Tsurugi Shrine 658 Nagao, Shiranuhi-cho, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture The view of the torii gate here also changes with high and low tide ⛩️ To see the torii gate floating on the sea, check the high tide time and visit within two hours before or after. There are two parking lots: one behind the shrine and one along the national highway. The road to the parking lot behind the shrine is narrow, so if you have a large car or are not used to driving, park in the first parking lot along the national highway. ⑤ Shiranuhi Specialty: Kinmomo Manju 171 Nagao, Shiranuhi-cho, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM · Closed Thursdays and Fridays The places introduced here are less crowded than the more famous spots, allowing you to enjoy them at your leisure and take great photos! On the hunt for legendary anime and jaw-dropping scenery? Each statue spot doubling as a scenic lookout for sweeping views of Kumamoto’s scenic landscapes ⛰️✨. The highlight? Chilling with a bronze statue while soaking in misty mountains and serene countryside feels. The statues are pretty spread out but I was able to visit them by public transport via local JR trains and buses if you follow the timings perfectly, but the schedules can be quite sparse. I utilized mainly the JR trains (Northern JR Kyushu pass) and a few local bus to get around the statues. Day 1 - Luffy*/Chopper*/Jinbei** · Kumamoto Tram to both Chopper and Luffy · *Take JR train to Sumiyoshi JR station for Jinbei Day 2 - Franky* & One piece train/Zoro**/Sanji***/Brook**** · Take JR train to Takamori JR station · *Take JR train back to Higo-Ozu station · **Take bus K3-3 from Suizenji Sta.dori bus stop (Near shin-suizenji JR station) · ***Take Mifune bound bus from Yokomachi bus stop to Nishiokan Day 3 - Usopp Take JR train to Aso JR station. Visit Mount Aso while you are there. Day 4 - Nami Take the Kumamoto airport limousine bus (Takamori bound) from Sakuramachi bus terminal to 'Moe No Sato' You would have visited me 9 out of the 10 statues by following this route. The Osabeta Seashore Road in Kumamoto offers a romantic landscape created by the ebb and flow of the tides in the Ariake Sea. At high tide, utility poles emerge from the sea, while at low tide, a concrete road leads to the center of the ocean. This road leads to seaweed farms. I visited in February 2026, arriving at sunset, two hours after high tide. "A Trip to the Nature-Rich Kumamoto" This time, I recommend... Kumamoto Prefecture!! 🌋 Kumamoto is located in Kyushu. It's about a two-hour drive from Fukuoka!! And the places we visited this time were "Nagabeta Kaido Road" and "Kusasenri" Both are rich in nature, the mountains and the sea!! We enjoyed both~🥰 At each location, you can stop by shops and ice cream and even try Kumamoto's famous Ikinari Dango! Please be sure to visit! 🤍 If you visit during the horse-free hours, you can even ride and pet the horses! Be sure to see the beautiful scenery with your own eyes!

The silhouette of utility poles along the path intersecting with the sea surface makes it a popular photo spot. · -- 🗿 ONE PIECE Jinbe Statue Located in Sumiyoshi Seaside Park, where Nagabeta Kaishoro is situated, stands a statue of Jinbe, a character from the popular manga "ONE PIECE." This statue was installed in July 2022 as part of the "ONE PIECE Kumamoto Reconstruction Project," symbolizing hopes for recovery from the Kumamoto Earthquake. Taking the family on a road trip. 1. As soon as I exited Kumamoto Airport, I saw information about One Piece. 2. Near the airport are Nami (near the Moe-no-Sato rest stop) and Zoro (in Ozu Park). 3. Sanji (at Mashiki Town Sports Park) and Brook (at Mifune Town). 4. Luffy (at City Hall) and Chopper (at the zoo) near Kumamoto. 5. Jinbe's Nagafuda Seabed Road on the beach. 6. Liar Bu (Aso Station) and Robin (at the Earthquake Museum) are both in Aso. Franky (at the Takamori Town Tourism Promotion Association) is in Minamiaso. 7. We chased Kumamon. Rain disrupted our itinerary this time, so we didn't get to Kumamon Harbor Yashiro. [Special Memories] The mountain view behind Robin is truly beautiful. You can buy goshuin at the Takamori Tourism Promotion Association where Franky is. At the zoo where Chopper is, we saw many adorable children participating in the field trip. Luffy would be great during ginkgo season; he's close to Chopper and perfect for Suizenji Temple. During Aso's trip, I saw the same group of people chasing One Piece, from Kusa Chisato to Trickster. I felt like those Japanese boys were following me. Jinbei was smiling happily, and when I walked over, I saw a coin in his sake bowl. It was drizzling when Brook and Sanji went, so they quickly took some photos and left. The mountain view behind Nami was beautiful, and there was a cute dachshund chair next to Zoro.

We took our family on a road trip and today we visited the Nagabeda Seabed Road. 1. There is free parking, restrooms, and a souvenir shop. 2. Please check the low tide times before visiting, as the seabed road is only visible at low tide. 3. It rained that day, so we didn't make it to the end, so we only took photos of the scenery around the starting point. 4. You can take photos with Jinbei/Gibber. From a distance, you can see him happily drinking. When you get closer, you can see that he's smiling so happily because there's money in his glass.

It is located about 40 minutes by car from Kumamoto Station. I arrived around 9:50. There was a guide at the parking lot, and the sky was conspicuous. The food stalls were also preparing, so there were few people, and a few people were enjoying fishing for crucian carp in the pond. I personally prefer to enjoy the cherry blossoms at a leisurely pace when there are few people, rather than enjoying them in a crowd, so I was lucky. The cherry blossoms were about 80% or 90% in bloom. The cherry blossoms were different from the site that introduced them, and I was expecting pink, but the color was whitish. I came all the way to Kumamoto, but there was a big gap between the site and the actual cherry blossoms... I wonder if I should have seen the cherry blossoms in my hometown? But I ate some delicious food along the way, so it's fine. If you ask me if I'll go again, I won't. That's the kind of place it is.

Jinbei statue‼️ It is installed in a place called Nagabeda Kaitoko Road, where the sunset is very beautiful. It is easy to stop by while driving, and you can gaze at the sea and take photos📷. I went on a trip to Kumamoto to visit the One Piece statues! The statues are set up as part of the reconstruction support near various tourist spots, local product shops, and inside the Kumamoto Earthquake Disaster Museum, allowing me to visit places I had never been before! Near the Kumamoto Earthquake Disaster Museum, where Robin's statue is located, there is the 'Former Tokai University Aso Campus.' The broken glass, tilted buildings, and cracks in the structures remain as they were, allowing me to feel the terror of the earthquake once again. The trip to Kumamoto was truly a great journey. I plan to visit the One Piece statues I haven't seen yet soon!

#newyearnewtrip I love the concept of dining at a conveyor belt sushi joint because there is little human interaction. There are no servers that will interrupt you, as you eat and enjoy your meal or no servers that keeps coming by your table to bring you your dishes. For a good conveyor belt sushi joint, my favourite has got to be Hamazushi because their food is fresh and I love how clean and modern the restaurant is. They have an extensive menu with different types of sushi to choose from, not just the basic ones. The price here is also pretty reasonable. Food is delivered fast on the conveyor belt when ordered and what's best is that there are 5 different sushi dipping sauce for your use and free refillable green tea. Love it here at Hamazushi!
