Ancient greek monastery

#temples The sumela monastery is an ancient Greek orthodox monastery. It dates back to as old as the 4th century. Left ruined several times in history. There are constant renovation efforts to preserve the ruins. It's terrible to think the destruction of it has been human doing. Anyways, for a price of 20 euros, it makes for one the finest ruins/historical sight visits in all of the black sea region. Yet, I think the prices of entries in Turkey need to improve. It's very costly when you calculate all the entrances you pay on a holiday. If you are in trabzon, you shouldn't miss this at any cost. The landscape of this area is so unlike what you imagine Turkey to be. Excellent views when you put in the effort and walk all the way. It does have some steep stairs. So prepare for that and preferably put on your best shoes. With renovations the tourist experiences will improve further. We took a bus after we were dropped at the parking lot by our taxi driver.
