Amsterdam: Bridges and Canals!

Amsterdam, despite the minute size, is a city easily to get lost into. With the city being home to almost 62 miles of criss crossing canals, therebu creating a country made of almost 90 small islands, and connected by more or less 500 bridges, one need a good orientation and a sense of direction to navigate this colorful city. Exploring the city through its canal system is definitely one of the most exciting way to discover the city. Aside from the canals being the main forms of transportation in Amsterdam, the canals also host a number of events and festivals throughout the year which everyone will surely enjoy. In addition, there are at least least 1,550 monuments inside the borders of the canals, including some significant landmarks, so there is definitely no shortage of attractions along the way. You may also get on your feet and take a leisurely walk along the hundreds of picturesque bridges that weave over the city's scenic waterways. Many of these bridges actually date back several centuries. To get the most of the experience, start with the bridge where Reguliersgracht meets Herengracht, with your back to Thorbeckeplein. You’ll see six bridges across the Reguliersgracht. Then, there's another six bridges as you look down the Herengracht, to your left. You’ll find two more bridges as you look to your right. Add in the one you’re standing on, and that makes 15 in a single visit. For someone who loves bridges like I do, this is definitely a treat. I have seen many bridges or different sizes, and I have yet to see more. On my travel wishlist still are those bridges of Snowdonia. #2023travelwish
