#mytraveldiary Mount Aso Escape was worth the drive. We reached Daikanbō first, the Great View Point, where the full caldera came into view. The mountains stretched wide and clear and the sight was impressive. Horses grazed nearby adding to the atmosphere. We drove there. The roads were winding in parts but manageable. Good signage made it easy to follow, and parking was available at key spots. You can drive right up to the crater, which makes it very accessible. The approach gave different angles of the mountain, each stop rewarding. Overall, it was a smooth trip with stunning views. If you can handle a bit of mountain driving, it is straightforward and enjoyable.
