Bali Travelogue (Part Three): The Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Bali is often referred to as 'left hand terraces, right hand ocean', and aside from the spectacular coastal scenery around the island, the rice terraces are also the most common feature in Bali postcards and photographs. The beauty of the rice terraces is a unique aspect of Bali, mainly concentrated around the Tegallalang area, located north of Ubud, along the road to the Holy Spring Temple. Here you will find that the coconut trees dotted among the fields and the majestic volcanic backdrop make it stand out among the countless terraces in the world, perfectly blending tropical scenery with pastoral views. Compared to the grandeur of domestic terraces, the terraces here are more like a delicate bonsai. The most beautiful terrace landscapes are distributed along about a 1-kilometer stretch of road, with many specially constructed scenic restaurants and tea rooms. At the Tegallalang Rice Terrace viewing platform restaurant, we enjoyed Indonesian flavored meals while admiring the intoxicating terrace scenery. The undulating green hills are pleasing to the eye, with layers of terraces adorned with coconut trees and flowers, and the majestic Mount Batur volcano shrouded in clouds drifting from the Indian Ocean, embodying the world's most revered 'three elements of happiness' philosophical concept, which is the combination of the spiritual kingdom, the human world, and the natural realm.
