China Paleontology Museum May Immersive Science Popularization Activities

In May, the China Paleontology Museum (Baoding Natural History Museum) launches a variety of immersive science popularization activities covering five major areas: fossil restoration, dinosaur sleepover, insect crafts, parent-child interaction, and outdoor study tours. All activities are based on authentic paleontological resources, combining scientific rigor with fun, suitable for families, students, and nature enthusiasts for in-depth participation. 【Fossil Restoration in Baoding】 From May 1 to 5, 10, 14 to 17, 21 to 24, and 28 to 31, fixed time slots are available daily for fossil restoration experiences, including typical ancient fossils such as wheel leaves, trilobites, ammonites, crinoids, gastropods, and sea urchins. Additionally, there is a special "Ammonite Mining" event on May 24. The entire process takes place in Science Classroom 2 and requires reservation through the official platform. Participants can personally clean, observe, and piece together ancient life remains, feeling the weight of geological time and the meticulous charm of paleontological work. 【Dinosaur Night Watchers】 On the nights of May 2-3 and 23-24, the Dinosaur Empire Exhibition Hall opens for overnight stays. Led by experts, the immersive guided tour includes paleontology quizzes, handicrafts, science films, and tent pitching. Spend a scientific night under the quiet giant dinosaur skeletons, inspiring children’s curiosity and reverence for the evolution of life. 【Insect Adventure】 On May 4, a beetle specimen-making class will be held in Science Classroom 5. From anatomical structure to ecological roles, participants will systematically learn about insect diversity and complete their own natural specimen to take home. 【Public Welfare Social Education Series】 Includes nine hands-on activities such as "Fishing Action," "Horse Puzzle," "Bird Little Craftsman," and "Daring Dinosaur Island Adventure": sandpit fishing simulation, mammal puzzles, bird feather observation, dinosaur-themed challenges at East Gate Square, Mother’s Day flower crafts, seed planting, nature photo check-ins, extinct species puzzle restoration, and cute activities around the Earth installation. These cover all age groups, with most activities requiring on-site reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. 【Science Popularization Courses】 Starting May 2, themed courses such as "The Past and Present of Shells," "Exploring Star-shaped Crinoid Fossils," and "The Great Fern Plants" will be held every Saturday afternoon in Science Classroom 5, deeply analyzing key clues of paleontological evolution. 【Yanshan Treasure Hunt - Gemstone and Dinosaur Exploration Journey】 On May 16-17, a two-day outdoor study tour will be conducted in Xuanhua, Zhangjiakou, to explore mineral crystals in volcanic rocks and Mesozoic strata traces. Participants will understand the "life code in stones" in real geological settings.
