The Old Town is the oldest and most popular area in Barcelona and the heart of Barcelona. It is divided into the Barri Gtic, the La Ribera and El Raval districts. The Gothic Quarter is the heart of the Old Town. It was originally an ancient Roman fortress village, named after many Gothic buildings. In the old town, outside the original first city wall is the coastal area. Since its Via Laietana street is adjacent to the Gothic area, it is also a medieval city.
