Batu Caves during Thaipusam

Batu Caves are worth the trip outside of KL, I visited in early February and could experience Thaipusam festival at the same time. Thaipusam is an annual Hindu festival, observed on the day of the first full moon during the Tamil month of Thai, which falls in late January or February. To be able to witness this event is amazing! The Batu Caves in Malaysia are a popular ending point as part of the ritual followed for this festival. Locals will walk bare foot through the night from Kuala Lumpur’s temple to bring gifts to the temple. It’s fascinating! The earlier you arrive at the caves the better, there are less monkeys around earlier in the day and the crowds are much smaller. We arrived at 7:45am and got our tickets (free) and took photos of the famous colourful steps. Walking up the steps is a little tiring for some, but when it’s quieter there’s no rush to reach the top. Inside you can see various shrines. There are other caves which you can visit, however these have a small entrance fee. For Cave Villa, the entrance fee is RM7 for Malaysians and RM15 for non-Malaysians. For Ramayana Cave, the entrance fee is RM5 for anyone. It’s important to remember that legs should be covered at all times in the Batu Caves, for respect. #awesomepic #thaipusam #malaysia #batucaves
