Freedom trumps all | Weizhou Island in Beihai

This article started with the intention of sharing photos and joy haha but as I wrote, it turned into a detailed guide. I spent several days planning before the trip, so I'll just mention a few highlights that I highly recommend after actually visiting. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. I recommend staying in Nanwan, which is like the CBD of Weizhou Island! The beaches and coastal lines are pretty similar, so I think the convenience of travel and accommodation is more important. I chose the Mandao Seaview Homestay in Nanwan. Pictures 5️⃣6️⃣ speak for themselves, the environment is great, and it's located in the middle of Nanwan. At high tide, the waves can reach as high as the fourth floor!! It was so enjoyable to watch every night, haha, and many people specifically go there to 'shower' - it's an interesting spot in Nanwan. Renting an electric scooter and dining around is super convenient, oh, and by the way, there's no need to rent a car when visiting Beihai or Weizhou Island, as most people choose electric scooters. Cycling around the island is no problem at all, very cool!! When I went, a scooter cost 30 for half a day and 60 for a full day. As for dining in Nanwan, it's all pretty similar. I was too lazy to buy seafood to cook. If I have to recommend, I'd say go for the local people's restaurants, which are quite rare, but I forgot the name. Speaking of scenery, I visited all but the Colorful Beach, and my personal favorite was the Shiluokou Beach, maybe because it was the first spot I visited. It wasn't too crowded and also had the niche volcanic rocks for photo ops, picture 4️⃣. The sea view from the Blue Bridge is also nice! For dining, my first meal on Weizhou Island was at the Freedom Sunset Bar, pictures 8-11. The overall dining experience was incredibly romantic, enjoying a seaside BBQ with a few drinks as the sun sets, waiting for nightfall. How can I describe it... At that moment, I felt like this was the life I've always dreamed of, almost wanted to quit my job on the spot, it was so comfortable and healing. And the lady who runs the place is super nice and considerate! She arranged our seats in advance, offered to take videos and photos for us without disturbing our meal, and was ready to solve any problems immediately 🫶🏻 I want to give the service full marks 💯 Can't think of any other key points to mention. If you need to, you can ask me. Some people mentioned that Weizhou Island has many tourists, but I think the most important thing is to have fun. Most of the people here are entrepreneurs, and there are few original residents. The scenery is nice, and there are still many undeveloped areas on the island. Let me add something about getting to the island 🚢. When I was doing research, I read that it's best to buy business or VIP tickets because many people get seasick, and that Beihai 25 is better than 26, etc. I bought business class tickets for both trips, 25 on the way there and changed to 26 on the way back. My family of three didn't feel anything, and I suggest choosing the fast ferry. It's not necessary to spend nearly two hours for 20-plus nautical miles, except for those with small children, as I saw some kids might have a reaction.
