National Heritage Site: Beijing Dongyue Temple (Grade 4).

Beijing Dongyue Temple, located at No. 141 Chaoyangmen Outer Street, is a Grade 4 National Heritage Site. It is a historic building from the Yuan to Qing dynasties. Beijing Dongyue Temple is the largest temple of the Zhengyi School of Taoism in North China. It was built by Zhang Liusun, a grandmaster of the Xuanjiao School of Taoism during the Yuan Dynasty, and his disciple Wu Quanjie. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, forming six courtyards, with a glazed archway from the Ming Dynasty at the front. The main hall, the Daiyue Hall, is a single-eave hip-roofed hall, with a long corridor leading to the Yude Hall, the sleeping palace, at the back, inheriting the layout of the Gongzi Hall that was popular during the Yuan Dynasty. The temple houses hundreds of inscriptions erected by the court and folk incense associations, the most in Beijing, which are of great value for studying the beliefs, industry organizations, and folk charities of Beijing during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Beijing Dongyue Temple is now a folk museum. The ticket price is CNY 10. There are not many tourists during the National Day holiday, so it is quite quiet.
