Wuta Temple Wuta Temple, also known as Zhenjue Temple, is located at No. 24 Wuta Temple Road, Haidian District, Beijing, and is an important cultural heritage site in Beijing. The temple was first built during the Yongle period of the Ming dynasty. It was originally named Zhenjue Temple, but was renamed Dazhengjue Temple in the 16th year of the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty (1751) to avoid taboo. Wuta Temple is famous for its iconic Vajrasana Pagoda, which was built in the 9th year of the Chenghua period of the Ming dynasty (1473) and was built in the style of the Mahabodhi Temple in India, with a unique South Asian style. The Vajrasana Pagoda of Wuta Temple is its most representative building, and the pagoda is divided into a pagoda base and five small pagodas. The pagoda base is a rectangular brick arch structure, with five small stone pagodas with dense eaves built on top, symbolizing the five Buddhas of the Vajradhatu. The pagoda is covered with exquisite carvings, including animal images such as lions, elephants, and peacocks, as well as religious figures such as Bodhisattvas and Arhats, showcasing the combination of Chinese architecture and foreign culture. In addition to the Vajrasana Pagoda, there are many other historical buildings and stone carvings in Wuta Temple. In 1987, Wuta Temple was transformed into the Beijing Stone Carving Art Museum, which displays a large number of stone cultural relics from the Beijing area, including inscriptions, epitaphs, and artistic stone carvings, reflecting the history and culture of Beijing.
