Robben Island: Walking in the Footsteps of History

Robben Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site off the coast of Cape Town. It is known for being the prison where Nelson Mandela and many other politicians were held. You get to learn about South Africa’s struggle for freedom and apartheid history. Getting There - You board a cruise at V&A Waterfront from Nelson Mandela gateway. Do remember to book tickets from the official website. Highlights - Top highlight for me is having an ex-prisoner as a guide in the island to walk us through the prison grounds and facilities as he recounts his stories. It is a solemn place to appreciate the country's struggles in the past. There are two parts to the tour, one part is walking with the guide through the prisons and another will be taking a tour bus around the island to get an appreciation of what life was like in the island and famous landmarks. Another highlight is the beautiful coastal and ocean view. Rating - 10/10. An unforgettable experience for me which has important historical and cultural significance.
