Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and it’s seen an incredible amount of development over the last 15 to 20 years. The Cardiff bay barrage is one of the most successful urban renewal projects in European history, it’s created an incredible entertainment district that has something for everyone. When the barrage was completed it created a huge man made lake which has been developed into a marina, wetland parks and the Mermaid Quay development. It houses the Millennium Center for performances, the Welsh assembly building and numerous food options - all centered around the historic dry docks and pier head building. The bay is great during the summer as there are always seasonal events, at the moment a fun fair for the family. The bay is a great place to understand Cardiff’s history and the role the docks paid in the early development of the city.
