The bronze statue of Mao Zedong is located in Shaoshan, Xiangtan, Hunan Province, in the open area in front of the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and the Mao Ancestral Hall. It is the main place for people to express their respect, remembrance, and commemoration of Chairman Mao. The statue is tall and strong, with a smile and a thoughtful expression, successfully capturing the demeanor of the great leader. It is surrounded by green pines and bamboo, with mountains in the background. The bronze statue of Mao Zedong is designed based on his image at the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China. It was designed by the famous sculptor and director of the National Art Museum of China, Liu Kaiqu, and the national first-class artist, Cheng Yunxian. The statue faces northeast, with Chairman Mao holding a speech manuscript, wearing a Zhongshan suit, with bright eyes and a slight smile, full of spirit. The statue is 6 meters high and weighs 3.7 tons, with a red granite base of 4.1 meters high, making a total height of 10.1 meters, symbolizing the National Day on October 1. The base of the statue is engraved with five gilded characters written by Jiang Zemin, "Comrade Mao Zedong." Today, December 26, 2024, marks the 131st anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong's birth.
