Chengde Mountain Resort, also known as "Chengde Palace" or "Rehe Palace", is located at No. 6, Shanzhuang East Road, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province. It is the summer palace built by the emperor of the Qing Dynasty in China to appease and unite the ethnic minorities in the border areas of China and consolidate national unity. It was built in 1703 (the 42nd year of Kangxi) and was completed in 1792 after 89 years of construction by Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong. It covers an area of 5.64 million square meters and is the largest existing royal garden in the world. The Mountain Resort is designed based on the geographical features of China. The topography and landforms of the northwest mountainous area, the southeast lake area, and the northern plain area constitute a miniature of the Chinese territory. The garden of the resort is naturally designed without artificial decoration. The buildings are hidden among the mountains, waters, grasses, and trees, forming a magnificent landscape that integrates the beauty of the south and the majesty of the north and gathers the famous scenic spots of the country in one garden.
