Chongqing Natural Resources Science Museum It turns out that you can see dinosaurs without going to Beibei. There is a Natural Resources Science Museum in Yubei, which I originally thought was a private museum, but it turns out to be of the same origin as the Chongqing Planning Exhibition Hall, both belonging to the Planning and Natural Resources Bureau. The venue is not as large as the Natural History Museum, but the content is very rich and definitely worth visiting. Location: Located on Hengming Road, Yubei District, Chongqing. On March 13, 2023, the Chongqing Natural Resources Science Museum officially opened to the public for free. Transportation: The nearest bus stop is Xihu Road Shangding Station. Get off at the Fortune Center bus stop and walk for more than 10 minutes. Get off at the Dongbu Park Station on the subway loop line and walk for 15 minutes. You can drive directly, and there is a dedicated parking lot. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday (9:00~17:00), closed on Mondays. Tickets: Free, just scan the code online to make a reservation (same applet as the Planning Exhibition Hall) Tour time: 1h~3h Compared to the Natural History Museum, the facilities here are newer. Since the exhibition hall is not large, it feels more substantial, and the theme here is clearer. Especially in terms of geology and animal fossils, many of the exhibits have been updated, making them more relatable to everyone, and many of the displayed contents are from Chongqing. Because the venue is small, the visit feels more relaxed. If the exhibition hall is too large, it usually ends up being a cursory glance. Another feature is that before entering the exhibition hall, there are dinosaur replicas at the entrance where you can take photos, making it very suitable for bringing children (the indoor space is too oppressive, and the lighting is relatively dim). Exhibition layout: The first floor of the exhibition hall tells the story of Chongqing's geological and paleontological resources along a macro time axis, while the second floor tells the story of Chongqing's unique natural resources such as mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and minerals. Combined with the three outdoor themed exhibition areas of dinosaurs, rocks and minerals, and natural resources, it collectively tells the science story of Chongqing's resources. The focus is still on the first floor, which is more relevant and substantial. The second floor has more pictures and specimens of natural resources. Treasures of the Museum: The five treasures of the museum, including the holotype fossils of Puan Yunyanglong, Modao Creek Sanxialong, Yuanshi Bashanlong, Puxian Emeilong, and the specimen of Bashi Giant Panda, are making their debut. Exhibition content and methods: The total area of the venue is 5,000 square meters, with four major exhibition areas: the Central Exhibition Hall, the Geological Evolution Exhibition Hall, the Life Evolution Exhibition Hall, and the Natural Resources Exhibition Hall. Through rare collections such as Mamenchisaurus, Puan Yunyanglong, Modao Creek Sanxialong, Bashi Giant Panda, and Miniature Border Town Fish, and using various exhibition forms such as pictures and texts, large physical specimens, restored scenes, multimedia, and interactive experience devices, the public is led on a journey to explore nature and life. Area division: The venue is also equipped with outdoor themed exhibition areas, science education areas, business research areas, public service areas, and management support areas, providing a growth environment for young people with the potential to become scientists and who are willing to devote themselves to scientific research. It also provides a comprehensive platform for natural resource science learners, enthusiasts, and practitioners to exchange, learn, display, and tour. Overall, it is very suitable for a weekend outing with children. It is not far within the city, cool in the summer, and half a day is enough, not taking up too much time.
