The Mountain City Trail is a unique attraction in Chongqing, showcasing the city's unique mountainous landscape. These trails are primarily for pedestrians and differ from typical city streets, featuring numerous steps and slopes, locally known as "tiekan". The most representative trail is Chongqing's Third Trail, located on the southern slope of the Yuzhong Peninsula, extending from north to south, with a total length of approximately 1748 meters. This trail passes by landmarks such as the Municipal Zhongshan Hospital (formerly the Legislative and Judicial Yuan of the Kuomintang Government), Kangjiantang, Bodhi Vajra Pagoda, the former site of the French Charity Hospital, and the Hanging Plank Road. Along the way, visitors can appreciate numerous historical attractions with old Chongqing characteristics. The Mountain City Trail not only preserves the traditional features of hiking and climbing in the old mountain city, but also incorporates modern elements, integrating historical culture with modern landscapes, fitness, and sightseeing, forming a local Chongqing characteristic and tourism brand. In certain sections of the trail, such as the Shibanpo section, there is a hanging plank road built on the cliff face, offering panoramic views of the southern bank of the Yangtze River. Furthermore, Shancheng Alley is an important part of the trail, with a history dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. It also houses the predecessor of Ren'ai Hospital, the Ren'ai Hospital founded by the French in 1900, and Tongyuan Gate, a preserved example of Chongqing's city gate ruins, which is also a modern historical park. To reach the Mountain City Trail, take Metro Line 1 or 2 to Jiaochangkou Station, or take multiple bus lines to Zhongxing Road Station.
