Colmar, France

Colmar (French: Colmar, listen, Alsatian: Colmer) is the capital of the Haut-Rhin department in the Alsace region of France. Colmar is located in northeastern France. Colmar is situated on the 'Alsace Wine Route' and is known as the 'capitale des vins d'Alsace' (capital of Alsace wines). Colmar is the birthplace of painter and engraver Martin Schongauer and sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty. Colmar is renowned for preserving its old town's architectural and historical atmosphere. The old town features museums, Christian religious sites, and shops and residences that maintain the appearance of a medieval town.
