A single visit to Nusa Penida is enough for a lifetime

The Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida has been very windy lately, and of course, it's also very beautiful (even on cloudy days the sea is very blue, which is beyond expectations), but personally, I think if you're short on time, there's no great need to make a special trip just for a photo op, for the following reasons: 🚗 Long travel time, basically spending the whole day on the road: It takes about 1-2 hours to get to the Sanur port from places like Ubud, another hour by boat to the island, and if you're only visiting the west line of the island it's not too bad, but going to the east side takes another hour or so. The roads on the island are full of potholes, making for a very uncomfortable car ride, and the return trip takes just as long. If you only have a few days off, it's really not worth wasting a whole day on transportation. 📷 Most people come to Nusa Penida just to take photos: From what I've observed, most tourists, especially from China, come to the cliffs of Nusa Penida just to take photos. Very few people actually walk down the cliffs (I myself only went halfway down, my old knees couldn't take it 😅), which makes the hours spent in transit seem even less worthwhile. So, it feels like if you're coming to Nusa Penida to snorkel or do other activities, it's fine, but just for photos, it seems not worth it. Moreover, the island is very hot, and although it's by the sea, there's hardly any breeze. We went on a cloudy day so it felt okay, but if it were a sunny day, the hike down would probably be scorching 🫠
