Largest Jesus statue in Asia

This is Cristo Rei statue in Dili, Timor Leste. This 89-foot statue of Cristo Rei was constructed in 1996 as a present from Indonesia to Timor Leste. Indonesian President Suharto wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Indonesia invasion and annexation of Timor by half-apologizing to the Timorese people for Indonesia’s decades of occupation. To please the Catholic majority, Suharto built a giant statue of Jesus standing atop a globe, accessible by a 590-step staircase. The statue was built in the Indonesian city of Bandung, where nearly all of the workers carving the face of Jesus into copper were Muslim. It sort of mimics Brazil’s Cristo Redentor or Christ the Redeemer statue, only it’s short of three meters in height and stands on a significantly lower mountain. And while Brazil’s Cristo is more geometrically sculptural, the one in Dili presents a more realistic version of Christ standing on a globe. How to get there? Take microlet 12 to Cristo Rei beach, then climb up the stairs (about 20-30 minutes) to reach the statue.
