Dongshan Island is located on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait in southern Fujian. It is the sixth largest island county in China and the second largest in Fujian Province. As of June 6, 2023, it has a land area of 243.4 square kilometers and a sea area of about 1,845.72 square kilometers. It has one development zone, seven towns, 61 administrative villages, and 19 communities, with a permanent population of 221,200 in 2022. The county's GDP in 2022 was estimated to be CNY 23.189 billion. It has been awarded the titles of "Top 100 Breathing Cities in China," "National Ecological County," "China's Excellent Tourism County," "National Science Popularization Demonstration County," and the first "Hometown of Chinese Quyi" in Fujian Province. Dongshan Island's coastal scenery is enchanting, with seven crescent-shaped bays along the southeast coast stretching over 30 kilometers. The small islands around the main island have unique shapes, such as Longyu, Shiyu, Huyu, and Xiangyu, which resemble dragons, lions, tigers, and elephants. The island is home to the national 4A-level "Fengdongshi-Tayu" Scenic Area, Mazu Bay Scenic Area, and more. The county has a total of 181.47 kilometers of inhabited island coastline, including 171.105 kilometers on Dongshan Island and 10.365 kilometers on Dachan Island.
