Chengdu Panda Valley | A Natural Wonder in the Home of the National Treasure

Chengdu Panda Valley, officially known as the Dujiangyan Field Research Center for Giant Pandas of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, is a comprehensive base for giant panda rewilding training, giant panda and companion animal breeding, high-end science education, and educational tourism. It is located in Baima Village, Yutang Town, Dujiangyan City, about 50 km from Chengdu. The overall planned area is 2,004 mu, and the rewilding research ecological area is 1.4 square kilometers. Panda Valley has unique natural climate conditions and more than 700 species of animals and plants, making it a natural base for giant panda rewilding. The main function of Panda Valley is to help giant pandas gradually adapt to life in the wild from a captive environment and prepare them for their eventual return to nature. In addition to giant pandas, there are also red pandas and other companion wild animals. Panda Valley has a fully functional giant panda adaptive ecological animal house, a semi-wild transition training area, and a red panda ecological release area. More than 10 giant pandas and more than 20 red pandas live here all year round. In addition, Panda Valley is also an important scientific research and education platform, bringing together rewilding experts from home and abroad to conduct research on giant panda rewilding and explore feasible solutions for giant pandas to gradually go into the wild for self-reproduction under ex-situ conservation. Panda Valley officially opened to the public on April 20, 2015, providing visitors with the opportunity to see giant pandas up close and raising public awareness of giant panda conservation.
