Anakena Beach

The Anakena Beach in the northern part of Easter Island is the most enchanting attraction of the island. Apart from a row of majestic 'moai' giant statues, there is a long and wide stretch of white sand beach; the palm forest on the shore is lush and verdant. Climbing to the highest point of the island, the summit of Mount Terevaka at an altitude of 507 meters, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the island's volcanoes and surrounding statues, where the vast Pacific Ocean merges seamlessly with the blue sky, offering a refreshing and uplifting experience. Just a short distance down from the mountain is the famous 'Seven Moai' statue site. Legend has it that this is where the seven sons of a Maori sorcerer waited for the arrival of King Hotu Matu'a. This site has the best-preserved group of 'moai' giant statues on the island. Every evening, people walk here to watch the sunset, with the afterglow painting half the sky red, and the giant statues outlined in an eternal silhouette. The main attractions to visit at Anakena Beach are two archaeological sites. One is 'Ahu Nau Nau' and its very photogenic 'moai' giant statues; the other is 'Ahu Ature Huki' on the side of the mountain, where the only giant statue was re-erected by the famous Norwegian archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl and more than a dozen local islanders in a span of 9 days.
