Baidicheng (Part 1)

Baidicheng is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River at the entrance of Qutang Gorge in Fengjie County, Chongqing, and is a famous tourist destination in the Three Gorges. Originally named Ziyang City, it was built by Gongsun Shu, who ruled over the Shu region at the end of the Western Han Dynasty. Baidicheng is backed by mountains on one side and surrounded by water on three sides, with the high gorge behind and the Yangtze River in front, presenting a majestic and spectacular sight. It is a long-standing and renowned attraction on the Three Gorges tourist route. The verse by Li Bai, 'Bidding farewell to the Emperor of Baidi amid colorful clouds, I return to Jiangling from a thousand miles away in just one day. The ceaseless cries of monkeys on both banks, as my light boat has already passed through countless mountains,' is widely known and cherished.
