The reconstruction of Fukuoka Castle's keep is just around the corner

🏯In ancient times, a "castle" symbolized the prosperity, power, and majesty of a city. In Japan, castles were fortified structures that provided residence for local lords (daimyo), mainly consisting of gates, walls, and the main keep. Beginning in the Yayoi period, the heyday of castle construction was after the Battle of Sekigahara during the Warring States period. However, due to Tokugawa Ieyasu's "one castle per country" order, their prominence declined, and no new castles were built after the end of the Edo period. Due to the cessation of castle construction and the passage of time, some castles were destroyed due to lack of maintenance or war damage, and few have been preserved intact. As a result, many ancient Japanese castles have been designated as important cultural properties. 🏯Currently, most ancient castles have been destroyed by war and natural disasters. Fukuoka Castle in Kyushu, Fukuoka, is one of the remaining ruins. Today, in the early spring of March, I visited the Fukuoka Castle ruins to explore the history of Fukuoka. There are dreams of hills covered with cherry blossoms🌸 and expectations for the rebirth of the majestic keep🏯. 🏯The keep that was seen before was based on the stone walls. There are three sizes: large, medium, and small. According to the historical museum, as early as 1646 (Shōhō 3), the illustrated map of Fukuoka Castle, 'Fukuoka Sōgō Ezutu,' did not include a keep, leading people to believe that the father and son, Kuroda Kanbei and Nagamasa, hesitated due to the shogunate's indecision and did not build a keep. 🏯In recent years, documents indicating the existence of the keep have been discovered, and theories about the keep's existence have emerged. It is said that it was actually built but demolished within ten years... 🏯It should be, to recreate the glory and rebuild the scenery. On the keep platform, a "castle in the sky" has been constructed. A modern imitation of an ancient keep using modern technology and materials is expected to appear on Fukuoka Castle shortly, becoming the landmark of Fukuoka, the capital of Kyushu.
