Fuzhou is home to a thousand-year-old temple with lychee trees dating back to the Song dynasty.

"Lychee trees have been passed down from the Song dynasty for four generations, and the sound of the bell has echoed since the Tang dynasty." Xichan Temple in Fuzhou was first built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and rebuilt in the eighth year of the Tang dynasty's Xiantong period (867). As the temple is located outside the west gate, it is commonly known as "Xichan Temple." The lychees of Xichan Temple are "smooth and thin-skinned, with a fresh and sweet taste," and have been highly praised since the Tang dynasty. Scholars and poets have come to taste the lychees throughout the ages, leaving behind many anecdotes and poems. The ancient Song dynasty lychee trees in the temple still stand guard over this blessed land. Upon entering the ancient temple, you will be greeted by a magnificent sight. The Arhat Pavilion houses 500 Arhats and has six floors, each with its own unique features. Climb to the top of the main temple for a panoramic view of the ancient temple. The temple's architecture is stunning from every angle, with overlapping halls, red walls, and golden tiles. The 15-story Bao'en Pagoda is the tallest pagoda in Fujian Province. You can walk clockwise around the pagoda to pay homage to the Buddha. Opposite the pagoda are the thousand-year-old "Song Lychee" tree and the Tang dynasty's Seven Star Well.
