Ganzhou - Wei Family Courtyard.

Located in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, the Wei Family Courtyard is the largest existing Qing Dynasty family residence complex in the city, with a history of over 200 years. It spans three streets in the old city of Ganzhou: Luojia Lane, Hebao Pond, and Cigu Ridge. It is a typical "Nine Wells and Eighteen Halls" style building of the Hakka people in southern Jiangxi. The courtyard was first built during the Jiaqing period (1799-1820) and took its final form in the early Republic of China. All the buildings are made of polished blue bricks, with tall firewalls and exquisite wood carvings on the beams that still shine brightly after years of weathering. The Wei Family Courtyard was originally a place where members of the Wei family lived together, reflecting the characteristic of the entire family living together and supporting each other. By 2019, the Wei Family Courtyard had been renovated and transformed into the Southern Jiangxi Hakka Culture Museum, becoming an important place for the display and inheritance of Hakka culture. The Wei Family Courtyard is not only one of the most representative ancient buildings in Ganzhou and even Jiangxi, but also a typical representative of traditional architecture in southern Jiangxi, embodying the format and style of traditional architecture in southern Jiangxi. It witnessed the rise and fall of the Wei family from the mid-Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China and is an important carrier of Hakka culture. Today, the Wei Family Courtyard has become a cultural heritage and tourist attraction in Ganzhou, attracting a large number of tourists and scholars every year to visit and study, and is of great significance for the inheritance and promotion of Hakka culture.
