Yamdrok Yumtso

Yamdrok Yumtso, abbreviated as Yamdrok Lake, is the holy lake closest to Lhasa city. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, along with Namtso and Mapam Yumtso. In Tibetan, Yamdrok Yumtso means 'Jade Lake' or 'Coral Lake on the Top'. It is the incarnation of a dragon girl and the residence of the female guardian deity. If you encounter a sunny day, the lake water presents a beautiful clear green, and just one look can definitely purify your soul. If you encounter a rainy day, the lake's appearance won't be as good. Most bloggers who post about avoiding the pitfalls did not see the most beautiful Yamdrok Yumtso because the weather wasn't good enough. When I went to Yamdrok Lake, it was a sunny morning, and the lake appeared blue-green, very spectacular. In the afternoon at the No. 3 viewing platform, it started to drizzle a bit, so the lake didn't look as blue in the photos. ❤️ Viewing Platforms: No. 1 Viewing Platform: At an altitude of 4998 meters, it is the highest viewing platform and charges an entrance fee of 120 yuan. Because this platform charges a fee, the one-day tour group I joined did not take us there. No. 2 Viewing Platform: At an altitude of 4677 meters, this is the main spot for photographing the S-bend. There are also some popular check-in points, such as taking photos with yaks and holding lambs. The prices are listed in the last photo. No. 3 Viewing Platform: At an altitude of 4441 meters, this platform allows close contact with Yamdrok Lake. You can walk to the lakeside and build some Mani piles. There are many Mani piles built by others by the lake, and I also built some. There are also No. 4 and No. 5 viewing platforms, which I did not visit, so I won't elaborate. 📍 Scenic Spot Address: Langkazi County, Tibet Autonomous Region 🚗 Scenic Spot Transportation: Yamdrok Yumtso is about 100 kilometers from Lhasa, a 2-hour drive. You can drive there yourself, but considering the high altitude sickness common in Tibet and the fatigue of driving, it is safer to join a one-day tour group. 💗 Other Tips: ① The altitude is between 4500-5000 meters, so be cautious of altitude sickness. It is recommended to bring altitude sickness medicine and oxygen as a backup. ② The wind at Yamdrok Lake is extremely strong! Be sure to wear a hat to keep warm and protect against the wind. ③ Be sure to visit on a sunny day; only then can you see the beauty of Yamdrok Lake.
