Qiunatong Catholic Church | Cultural Fusion in the Nujiang Grand Canyon

Qiunatong Catholic Church is located in Qiunatong Village, Bingzhongluo Town, in the most prominent position in the village. You can see it as soon as you enter the village via the mountain road. This church is a local landmark. From the outside, it looks more like a temple, with a brown and yellow exterior and gray tiles. A four-cornered pavilion is built on the double-eave roof, and a cross stands on the ridge. The cross can be seen from most angles in the village. Qiunatong Catholic Church has a long history. In 1841, a French missionary built a church here after crossing the Biluo Snow Mountain, but it was burned down a year later due to the "Bengka Incident." In 1888, Father Ren Anshou came to the Nujiang Grand Canyon. After the Baihanluo Incident in 1905, Father Ren Anshou used the compensation from the Qing government to build a new church in Qiunatong Village, which was completed in 1908. It became the northernmost point of Catholicism in the Nujiang River Basin. Villagers from here and Deqin on the other side of the mountain often come to the church to participate in activities. It is the main center of faith in the area and is well maintained.
