Revisiting Elephant Trunk Hill

Elephant Trunk Hill is a landmark attraction of Guilin City, and I always visit here every time I come to Guilin. Elephant Trunk Hill was originally located at the confluence of the Peach Blossom River and the Lijiang River in Guilin City. The mountain is named for its resemblance to a giant elephant standing by the river and drinking from the Lijiang River, and is known as the symbol of Guilin's landscape. Elephant Trunk Hill is the emblematic mountain of Guilin and the landmark mountain of Guilin tourism. Between the elephant's trunk and leg is a round hole, through which the river flows, like a bright moon floating on the water. The Water Moon of Elephant Hill on the west bank of the river and the Moon Cave on the east bank of the Lijiang River form a unique landscape of 'Double Moon of the Lijiang River'. The main attractions of Elephant Trunk Hill include Water Moon Cave, Elephant Eye Rock, Puxian Pagoda, Yunfeng Temple and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolution Ruins Exhibition Hall in the temple. Nearby is the only remaining relic pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple from the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Water Moon Cave is close to the river, with the Lijiang River flowing through it, like a moon floating in the water, and the rocks hanging into the water like an elephant's trunk drinking from the Lijiang River, creating a beautiful scene. It has been a popular tourist spot since the Tang and Song Dynasties. In 2017, Elephant Trunk Hill and the Two Rivers and Four Lakes Scenic Area were jointly upgraded to a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Starting from January 31, 2022, Elephant Trunk Hill Scenic Area is officially fully open for free. ⏳Tour time: Free admission, tour time is 1 to 2 hours.
